“Trauma. I gotta go.” I say, looking at my pager, getting up, and running out of the room. When I get to the ambulance with the patient, I notice that Derek, Arizona, Alex, Mark, Callie, Charlotte, Owen, and Christina are all there too.

“What's going on?” I ask, confused.

“Don't you remember? The kids from Africa are coming in tonight, now actually.” Callie says, answering my question.

“Oh? No, I remembered. Who wouldn't?” I ask, laughing. After a few more minutes of waiting, the bus finally pulls up with all of the kids. When it stops, we help unload them and go to our designated patients. My patient is a 6 month old baby, named Zola, who has Spina Bifida. As soon as I see her, my heart breaks knowing that she is just a baby and has this defect. As soon as the others are unloaded we head to the rooms that they will be staying in. When I get into the room, I notice that no one is there with her, except for Lexi and Amelia.

“Where's the person that came with her?” I ask, confused.

“She didn't have anyone to come with. She's an orphan.” Amelia says, answering my question.

“What? Who would give her up?” I ask, shocked and a little sad knowing she has no family.

“Apparently her mother was already going to give her up when she was born, but when she found out she had a defect, she was even quicker to drop her off at the orphanage.” Lexi explains to me.

“Oh.” Was all I could say. After a few minutes of standing in silence, Zola starts crying in Lexi's arms. I reach over to take her from Lexi and hold her in my arms, rocking back and forth. After a few seconds, she stopps crying and snuggles into my chest, making me smile.

“I think she likes you.” Amelia says, smiling at me.

“I think she does too.” Lexi says, agreeing with Amelia. Hearing this makes me smile even more. After a little while Zola is asleep in my arms while I rock her back and forth. Then, Mark walks in and gives me a quick kiss. When he looks down and sees the baby, he gives me a questioning look.

“She's the patient of mine from Africa- 6 month old with Spina Bifida. Her name is Zola.” I tell him.

“Where's her family?” He asks me, looking around.

“She's an orphan. She has no family.” I reply, looking down at her with a sad smile.

“Oh.” Was all he said. I look back up at him, coming up with an idea.

“Do you think, maybe we could... adopt her?” I ask, hoping he says yes. When he hears me ask this, he looks back down.

“Bella-”

“I know, I know. Lilly just got out of the hospital from being sick, not to mention she's still a newborn, my sisters got in a car wreck, and we're both surgeons, meaning we're barely home. I just-”

“What? You just what?” He asks, getting angry.

“I just can't let her go back to Africa without a family.” I say, crying a little.

“What do you want me to do? We can't keep her.” He tells me, looking me in the eye. I turn away from his gaze and start crying even harder.

“Why? Why can't we keep her? Because we're never home, because we just had a baby, or because you don't want to. Which one is it?” I ask him, getting mad.

“Listen-”

“No. You listen. I love you I really do, but I'm tired of doing everything you want to do. Just for once can't we do something I want to do?” I ask him, cutting him off.
