“Hey. What's up with your change in mood?” She asks, curious.
“Mark and I made up!” I say, happy.
“Really?” She asks.
“Yeah. He even said that we can adopt Zola.” I say, happier.
“That's great!” She exclaims.
“We just left her room. She fell asleep in his arms while I explained everything to him and he's already protective over her.” I tell her.
“When do I get to meet her?” She asks, hopeful.
“If you're up to it, we can go now. Mark's the only other one besides Amelia and Lexie who's seen her so far.” I say.
“I'm up to it.” She says quickly, smiling even bigger. After she says this, I go and come back with a wheelchair and help her in it. After a couple minutes of walking, we finally get to Zola's room. I go over to her crib, pick her up, and put her in Addy's arms. As soon as she sees her, Addy smiles.
“She's so adorable!” She coos, looking at her.
“I know.” I say, smiling.
“When's her surgery?” She asks, looking at me.
“Tomorrow at 3. It'll be me, Amelia, and Lexie performing it.” I tell her.
“When are you and Mark going to see a social worker about adopting her?” She asks, more curious this time.
“After her surgery.” I say. She nods in understanding. A few minutes later, Zola starts crying. Addy, not knowing what to do, rocks her back and forth, trying to calm her down. I reach over and take her from Addison and start rocking her back and forth. After a few seconds, she calms down and snuggles into my chest, making me smile even more.
“She really likes you.” She tells me, smiling.
“Lexie and Amelia said the same thing earlier when this happened.” I say, laughing a little.
“Well, I think I should be getting back to my room. I usually get my blood taken at this time.” She says. I put Zola down and wheel her back to her room. When we get in there, an intern's in there with an 8 gauge needle.
“Don't tell me you're going to take her blood?” I say, making it come out like a question.
“Yes.” She replies, looking a little scared.
“Who assigned you to do it?” I ask her.
“I-I'm on Dr. King's case today. She told me to check on all of the patients and do what their chart says, all but one patient though.” She said, looking around.
“Did she say which patient?” I ask, wondering what she'll say.
“N-No. She said that I'll figure it out.” She stuttered.
“Oh really?” I ask, grabbing my pager and paging Charlotte. A few seconds later, she comes running in the room, looking around until she notices me and the scared intern.
“I take it she didn't figure out which patient she wasn't supposed to tend to?” She asks, smiling a little.
“Yep. If it weren't for me bringing Addy in from meeting Zola, she would've screwed up giving her a shot.” I say, turning my attention to Charlotte.
“Not even when the chart says DR. Addison Montgomery on it?” She asks, smiling even bigger now.
“Apparently not.” I reply, crossing my arms and looking back at the intern.
“You. What's your name?” I ask.
“A-Angela Thompson.” She tells me.
“Well, Thompson, you can go now.” I tell her.
“Yes Dr...” She says, putting the needle down and walking out of the room quickly. When she's far enough away, I start laughing, along with Charlotte and Addison.
“Did you scare her enough?” Charlotte asks, still laughing.
“I think so. I can't wait until she's on my service.” I say, laughing a little harder.
“She's probably gone off to tell the other interns” Addison says.
“Well, since I'm here, I'll go ahead and take your blood.” Charlotte says, grabbing the needle and taking some blood from Addy. When she finishes, she walks out of the room.
“Have they said when you're going to be discharged yet?” I ask her.
“Not yet. I hope it's soon, though.” She says, shaking her head.
“Me too.” I agree with her.
