As soon as we finish eating, we go back to work. I go back to the nurses desk only to find the person from the cafeteria who I didn't recognize. She looks up at me, causing me to look back down immediately. She then walks over to me.
"Hi! I'm April Kepner, the new trauma surgeon. You must be Isabella Sloan." She says as we shake hands.
"Just Bella. It's nice to meet you." I say, smiling.
"Likewise. I've been hoping to get a case with you since I started." She explains as our pagers go off.
"Well it looks like you might get to now." I say as we run to where the ambulance is unloading a patient.
"47 year old Leah Smith. Car, tree, and another car. The other driver was somehow okay. Leah here has possible brain bleed, internal bleeding, and many broken or dislocated bones." The paramedic explains as we take her into a trauma room.
"Page neuro and ortho!" I shout to anyone listening as we move the patient onto the bed in the room.
"I was paged?" I hear Callie ask as she walks in, not realizing that I was in the room.
"Yeah. Car accident victim with dislocated hip and cracked ribs." I finally speak up as she looks at me and immediately stops putting on a trauma gown.
"You're gonna have to page someone else then." She says as she turns and leaves the room and April looks at me shocked.
"What's her problem?" She asks in disbelief.
"Her girlfriend died trying to save my life and now she won't even speak to me. Looks like I'll be the one resetting the hip." I explain as I go over and get ready to reset Leah's hip. Once it's back in place, I look at the CT scans from earlier and see that, surprisingly, she has no bleeding.
"Huh. That's odd." I think out loud.
"What?" April asks, walking over to look at the scans.
"Leah Smith has no bleeding whatsoever. I'm surprised, seeing how bad of shape she was in when she arrived."
"Maybe it's a miracle." April says.
"Yeah. Maybe it is."
