Alastor paced in his room, he decided he would go and see where Zagen has taken Thaddeus. ' Probably the basement. After all that's his little prison in this house. ' Alastor thought.
Alastor looked up as Zagen entered his room again. Zagen gave Alastor a stern glare, like he was redirecting a dog. ' Does he really think I'll do what he says because he scares me? '
"Don't get any funny ideas about your cousin. I won't be accepting any slip ups from you." Zagen said, Alastor felt the urge to roll his eyes. But bit it back, he knew he'd probably upset Zagen. And that meant something that Alastor would feel for the next few days.
' Damn it. He's already controlling me. ' Alastor debated just rolling his eyes to defy Zagen. The look on his face every time he defied him was worth it. "Based on your silence I'll take it you understand." Zagen said, Alastor nodded.
Zagen left the room, leaving Alastor alone with his thoughts. ' I'll have to wait till school starts, then I can sneak out and come home. Zagen and Eros will be at their work, and I can visit Thaddeus. '
Alastor grabbed his things and left for school. He didn't take his usual shortcuts, just took the long way. ' Athena's initials are just a coincidence. ' He told himself.
He arrived at school, thinking of how long he should stay. ' Just till third period. Zagen and Eros should be out of the house then. ' Alastor sat in his classes, zoning out for the majority of it.
Once the third period bell rang Alastors plan went into action. He went towards the busiest part of the school, where a bunch of students were walking. He silently slipped out the doors, quickly running off.
He walked home, deciding to take his usual shortcuts. ' If Athena really is trying to kill me she can't anymore. She's stuck in school while I'm out here. ' Alastor walked into an alleyway, avoiding the broken bottles scattered around.
He stopped in his tracks, he had a weird feeling. Like someone was watching him. He turned to see a shadowy figure in the alleyway behind him. Alastor glared at them. They couldn't see who he was, he had his hood covering his bright orange hair.
Alastor looked down at the figures hand, noticing a small dagger in their hand. "Shit." He muttered, turning back around as he quickened his pace. He could hear the person's footsteps behind him.
Alastor stopped dead when he felt a hand grab his shoulder, another hand at his throat with the dagger. "One more move and it's over." Alastor's heart dropped when he recognized the voice.
It was Athena, there was absolutely no question. ' I can't let her see I'm scared. As of now she has the upper hand, she can't see I'm scared as well. '
"You aren't good at hiding. I've known what you were up to for a while now." Alastor said, the knife he had collected in his right hand. He silently uncovered it, letting the blade out. "Is that so?" Athena said, her dagger touching Alastor's throat.
Alastor quickly grabbed Athena's hand, turning around as he put his own knife to Athena throat. "Impressive. Too bad it's not enough to stop me." Athena punched Alastor's arm, knocking the knife out of his hand.
"Don't make me hurt you. I can do more than you think." Alastor said. "With your fire?" Athena responded, Alastor stood there shocked.
' How does she know about that?! ' "I know everything about you Alastor. As does the higher authorities." Athena said, taking a step towards Athena. "Turn yourself in, you could become a great asset for us." Athena said. "Us? Who's us?" Alastor said, taking a step away from Athena.
"The FBI, the government, whoever chooses to requite you." Athena said. Alastor just stared in shock. "Why would I ever help you? I'm not looking to grow ties with cops." Alastor growled, taking a step towards Athena.
"I don't think you know exactly how far I can go with my fire." Alastor said, his sparks coming from his hands. Athena looked unimpressed with it all. "Yawn. I thought you'd be a bit harder to fight Alastor. Guess not." Athena said, kicking out Alastor's legs from beneath him.
Alastor fell to the ground as Athena pulled out her dagger, getting ready to stab Alastor. ' Shit. It's do or die now, I have to fight back. ' Alastor extended his arms, sending a line of fire towards Athena.
Athena quickly turned, narrowly avoiding the fire. Alastor got back up, taking a step forwards as a bubble of fire appeared around Athena. ' Luckily no one can see us here, I can use as much fire as I need. '
"Regretting your decision?" Alastor said, as he walked through the wall of fire. Athena's eyes went wide. "You can go through it?!" She yelled, Alastor smiled. "Of course I can. After all I'm not normal like you." Alastor said, sending another line of fire towards Athena.
Athena yelled as the fire hit her, burning her legs. Athena, now antsy as she knew she could get out, lunged towards Alastor. She pushed him out of the fire, the wall disappearing as she did. ' Damn it! Why can't I control it as well as when I was fighting Thaddeus? Every time some one takes me by surprise my fire disappears. '
Athena held Alastor up against a wall, her dagger to his throat. Alastor held his hands next to her chest, a ball of fire ready to burn her. "Listen. Your good at fighting. But nowhere near good enough to compete with my fire. Tell your superiors, or whoever tasked you with killing me, that I got away. This will only end with you dead." Alastor said.
He knew he could kill Athena, but at the same time he couldn't. His already poor mental health would be even worse if he had to deal with death on his hands. Plus he'd never hear the end of it from Zagen.
"Fine. Truce, for now." Athena said, letting Alastor down. "Thanks." He said, getting rid of his fire as he walked away. Alastor walked to Zagen's house. 'I still have to deal with Thaddeus.' Alastor thought, sighed quietly.
Alastor silently open the door, he had swiped an extra key when Zagen wasn't looking. He walked inside. Somehow the house seemed more eerie when no one was there. He grabbed a bag of cheezits and a water bottle from the kitchen.
Alastor walked downstairs to the basement. "Shit." Alastor said when he saw the lock on the door. "Thaddeus? You there?" Alastor said knocking on the door. Alastor waited for a response but got nothing, only heard quiet sniffles from inside.
"Listen. I don't know what your thinking, but I'm trying to help. I know this basement is living hell, but at least talk to me. Please." Alastor said. He still couldn't believe he was trying to be nice to Thaddeus.
But he had to somehow repay his kindness. After all saving him from Dolus was a given. 'Was it? If I was still pissed at him I don't know if I would've save him.' Alastor shook the thoughts away.
"There's a lock on the door, I'm going to try and burn it. So don't freak out when you smell the smoke, ok?" Alastor said, waiting for an answer he knew wouldn't come. He created a low flame, slowly burning the lock.
The part around the door became liquid and fell off. Alastor slowly opened the door, carrying the food. He set it down on a small table, one of the only pieces of furniture in the basement.
"So.... Are you gonna talk to me at all?" Alastor said, Thaddeus didn't respond, didn't even look up at Alastor. That just made his blood boil. "Really?! That's how you're gonna repay my kindness?" Alastor growled, Thaddeus flinched at Alastor's raised voice.
'Damn it, I scared him. Why can't I do anything right?!' Alastor scowled. "Whatever. Stay by yourself since you don't want to talk with me." Alastor said, turning around and closing the door. He picked up the lock and melted the already cooling metal.
The lock didn't go back to before, but it was close enough. 'Hopefully Zagen won't notice. Thaddeus is back, so he could always get rid of me if he wanted.' Alastor though. 'But Thaddeus is on the cop's radar now. So maybe I do have a chance.'
Alastor walked away to his room. He hated how he was forced to think now, to compete with Thaddeus. 'I hate it when Zagen gets the better of me. No matter what so much about me has changed because of him.'
Alastor sat in his room against the door, sighing. 'Why must everything end with him winning? When will it be my time to win?' Alastor sighed, putting his head on his knees as he wrapped his arms around his legs.
