Alastor
Alastor walked back into the casino, stomping on his cigarette outside. While he did hate having to leave the casino all the time, he couldn't just stop smoking easily. I have to at least try and quit, I can't just be leaving all the time.
Even if it was just for ten minutes at most, it left the casino vulnerable. Even ten minutes could be a big enough gap for someone to make some trouble. He had been in this business for long enough to know not to underestimate anyone, ever.
Alastor walked inside, seeing Sam who looked both upset and pissed. He signaled for Alastor to meet him in his office, then he disappeared there. What did I do? Alastor thought, following after Sam.
He closed the door behind him, seeing as Sam angrily paced. "What's wrong?" Alastor asked, awkwardly standing at the door. "Alastor, have you ever killed someone?" Sam asked, his voice unusually void of emotion.
The question shocked Alastor, he hesitated before responding. "Yes." He said, Sam didn't respond. "Y'know, after telling you about my past I expected you to at least open up to me a little." Sam said, his voice steadily rising in anger.
"But what do I get? A 'my life's boring'!" Sam growled, throwing his hands up in frustration. "Well, Alastor," Sam snapped, making Alastor flinch at how coldly he said his name. "This doesn't exactly sound 'boring' to me." Sam said, glaring at Alastor.
"You want to hear about how I killed people?" Alastor asked, his voice calm compared to Sam. "About how I burnt them and watched as the life drained from their eyes, how I enjoyed it??" Alastor growled, moving closer to Sam.
"Why the fuck would I tell you all of that? Tell you how much I used to love doing that shit, murdering and terrorizing people just for the fun of it." Alastor said, Sam watched him. "We're in a relationship Alastor, you can't just lie to me, or refuse to tell me anything about yourself, but still expect me to open up to you." Sam growled back.
"Why can't I?!" Alastor snapped, making Sam flinch. "Because it's idiotic! Everything would be one-sided, I won't be the only person putting effort into this." Sam growled. "It's not one-sided, I've put in as much love and kindness as you have." Alastor growled back.
"And that's all you want this to be? You don't want to be able to connect with someone, talk to someone about your troubles?" Sam said, his voice more desperate than angry now. "I- Of course I do. It's just.." Alastor stopped, holding back his words.
"You see? You're always ready to tell me something, to connect, but you stop right before." Sam said, sounding more sad by the second. "It's hard, I've been... taken advantage of, when I'm open with my weaknesses." Alastor said, Sam looked hurt.
"So you think I'm going to take advantage of you?" Sam asked, Alastor's eyes widened. "No, no! Of course not, just, if you know information someone might find out and hurt you to get that information. And I don't want you to have to deal with that." Alastor said, speaking quickly and nervously.
"Like Thaddeus." Alastor mumbled, Sam suddenly looked guilty. "Like... Thaddeus?" He asked, he sighed, rubbing his eyes. "God damn it Sam, your so stupid sometimes." Sam said to himself, smacking his head. "What? What happened?" Alastor asked.
"I um, had ended up talking with Thaddeus earlier. And kinda slipped up and told him we were dating." Sam said, smiling awkwardly. Alastor just stared at him, his face emotionless.
"Oh. My. Gods. Sam- if you weren't my boyfriend, or anyone else for that matter, you'd be dead right now." Alastor said, sighing. "Y'know what? There's nothing we can do now, so might as well forget about it." Alastor said, sitting down on a couch in his office. Sam sat down next to him.
"I guess I should tell you more about myself, I kind of owe you that." Alastor said, he mumbled something quietly to himself. "I'm 24, have had my powers since I was 16, when I started living with Zagen." Alastor said, he saw Sam's prying eyes and laughed.
"I ran away from my dad, who I killed recently." Alastor said, seeing Sam's shocked expression he bit his cheek. "Uh, he didn't have a good relationship with Zagen, so I knew he'd never come looking for me there." Alastor said, now more reluctant to tell Sam about himself.
"Oh! Do you know how we have our powers?" He asked Sam, who shook his head. "Apparently our ancestors were favorites of Prometheus, the titan who gave humans fire." Alastor's spoke, glad to have changed the topic. "Prometheus loved them so much he decided to bless them with powers, obviously Zeus wasn't happy with that so he extended Prometheus's punishment for a few hundred more years." Alastor said.
"Zagen has always drilled the idea into me that the Greek gods exist, because if we didn't acknowledge them, and worship them, our powers could go away suddenly." Alastor said, he laughed softly. "Maybe it's a load of bogus, maybe it's not, who knows?" Alastor laughed, Sam smiled at seeing this.
"Do you have any siblings? I'm an only child." Sam said, Alastor brightened. "I have a brother, his names Truman." Alastor said, Sam noticed the change in Alastor's mood. "He has powers too, my mother has healing powers and he inherited them. He's amazing, sure he failed a grade or two but he is an awesome person, and a great brother." Alastor said, a smile on his face.
"No matter what I do, or what I say, he never gives up on me. Not like other people, he's always ready to give me another chance." Alastor said, sighing. "I could get you two to meet sometime? I'm sure he'd be glad to meet you." Alastor said. "Of course! I'd be happy to meet him." Sam responded, Alastor nodded.
"We should get back to work now, before Zagen's spies notice something's up." Alastor said, getting up. "Spies? He has people watching you?" Sam asked, Alastor nodded. "No offense to him, but he's got some serious issues with control. Can't even let me go to work without being watched." Alastor sighed.
He hugged Sam, resting his head on his shoulder. "Sorry if I'm being distant... I don't mean to do it." Alastor said, leaving Sam shocked. "Uh, didn't you say we have to get back to work?" Sam asked. "We have three more minutes before they send an update to Zagen, so for a little bit let's just enjoy this." Alastor sighed, Sam wondered how much time he had spent watching Zagen's spies to know this.
After a little while Alastor pulled away, taking a heavy breath. "Well, time to work." He said, walking out. Sam waited a few minutes, leaving afterwards. Alastor went into a room, seeing cameras. He looked through the footage, trying to find when Thaddeus had came in.
He came upon the time, watching as Thaddeus walked in like he owned the place. "That asshole, can't even respect me in my own casino." He growled, watching as Thaddeus went up to Sam. He saw as they exchanged words, seeing Sam's obvious reactions.
Alastor sighed. What am I gonna do with him? He thought, continuing to watch the footage. Thaddeus left after a while, and Alastor walked in afterwards. "Damn it, I barely missed him. He must've known my schedule, that stalker." Alastor muttered. "Great, I'm gonna have to change my whole routine just because this creep memorized it." Alastor said to himself, rubbing his eyes.
"Actually, I could change my routine regularly. Just to keep him on his toes." Alastor said, he held a proud smile for thinking that up.
At least I can frustrate him like that, I'll jab him in anyway I can. Alastor thought, then his spirits came dragging down when he thought of Ashur. I really wanted to change, and I'll admit, since then I've calmed down more. But
I can't endanger Truman, or Sam just to be good.I just can't.
