IT WAS A BROKEN RECORD. Lily Carter had heard every excuse imaginable publishers used to not buy her book. They had said things like 'wasn't interesting enough for an adult book, and it was far too scary for a children's book- nothing she did was right in their eyes. There was one publisher left, the last of the eight she already worked through all of last year. And even through all the rejection and them tearing apart her ideas, she kept the optimism she had from her interview with the very first publisher. It may be the size of a pea, but it was still there. Orbiting around her heart like the Moon does the Earth.

The twenty-three-year-old readjusted the bag strap on her left shoulder and stood at the bottom of the step leading up to the entrance of the 'Bad Wolf Publishing Company.' She was drawn to this company from the start- for some reason, its name scratched the back of her brain. Straightening the flaps of her blazer, she took in a nervous breath and started her ascent. The doorman gave her a courteous nod as he held open the door for her. Lily responded with a smile and headed towards the security check. After she made it through security, she made her way to the front desk to check-in.

"Hi." She fished her ID out of her bag and handed it to the desk lady. "Lily Carter. I have an appointment with Ms. Gretchen."

After a few minutes of signing papers and waiting for the go-ahead, Lily was sent to the lifts and told to go up to the tenth floor. Mere moments later, she was introduced to the board as well as CEO, Louise Gretchen. They all sat around a long and narrow conference table, the room overlooked the city, and windows instead of walls covered the area. Louise's graying hair was pulled back into a tight, professional bun. Her pantsuit had not even a speck of lint, and that in turn hiked up Lily's nerves. She sat at the end of the table, and the expression plastered on her face didn't help ease Lily's nerves. She seemed annoyed, or uninterested. Maybe both?
