I watch the episodes as I write and can say that 'The Empty Child' and 'The Doctor Dances' are my favorites of season one :)

The London Blitz
1941

LILY COULD NOT SEE A WAY OUT OF THE PREDICAMENT THEY FOUND THEMSELVES IN. The wall behind was against her back and the Doctor stayed in front of them, speaking to all the patients in a booming, commanding voice. "Go to your room." Lily and Rose shared a look when they all stopped. That seemed to encourage the Doctor to continue further. "Go to your room. I mean it." They all tilted their gas mask-covered heads. "I'm very, very angry with you. I am very, very cross. Go to your room!" The patients appeared to hang their heads in shame and obeyed the Doctor's orders, returning to their beds. "I'm really glad that worked." the Doctor chuckled as they all lay down. "Those would have been terrible last words."

When they left the wall and started forward, all still cautious, Lily asked the Doctor. "Why are they all wearing gas masks?"

"They're not," Jack answered her instead, earning a look from the one she was originally asking. "Those masks are flesh and bone."

The Doctor continued his stare at Jack when he sat in a chair, resting his legs on the nearby table. "How was your con supposed to work out?" The Doctor asked him.

"Simple enough." Jack shrugged. "Find some harmless piece of space junk, let the nearest Time Agent track it back to Earth, convince him it's valuable, and name a price. When he's put fifty percent up front-oops!" He laughed and made a gesture with his hands. "A German bomb falls on it, destroys it forever. He never gets to see what he's paid for, never knows he's been had. I buy him a drink with his own money, and we discuss dumb luck. The perfect self-cleaning con."
