THE LIFT DOORS OPENED TO THE ALL TOO FAMILIAR FLOOR 500. Jack was the first to exit into the control room, gun drawn. "Okay!" They closely followed behind him as he kept barking commands to the staff. "Move away from the desk! Nobody try anything clever! Everybody clear!" He ordered, pointing his guns at them. "Stand to the side and stay there!" They were smart to listen as all their hands raised.
They made their way down the aisle towards a very pale woman with white eyes in the dead center, handing on the wall with various wires into her skin. The Doctor raised his gun at her. "Who's in charge of this place?" He demanded but all she did was repeat numbers.
"Nineteen, eighteen."
Rose joined his side as he tried again. "This Satellite's more than a Game Station." He studied the woman.
"Seventy-nine, eighty." She muttered in response.
Enraged, Rose shouted up at her. "Who killed my sister?!"
"All staff are reminded that solar flares-"
"We want an answer!" The Doctor declared.
"-Occur in delta point one."
"She can't reply." A man shouted. When the Doctor turned to him, he pleaded and raised his arms higher. "Don't shoot!"
The Doctor, noticing he was pointing the gun at this man, rolled his eyes. "Oh, don't be so thick. Like I was ever going to shoot." He tossed his gun to the man in the tie who clumsily caught it- then turned to Jack. "Captain, we've got more guards on the way up. Secure the exits."
Jack gave a firm nod and replied. "Yes, sir." Before jogging off, Rose handed him the blaster she stole.
"You." The Doctor pointed to the tie man who looked ill to just be holding a gun. "What were you saying?"
"But," He stuttered out, holding out the weapon he was holding. "I've got your gun."
The Doctor's eyes rolled once again and huffed in annoyance. "Okay, so shoot me. Why can't she answer?"
"She's er . ." He looked back down at the gun and gave the Doctor a nervous chuckle. "Can I put this down?"
"If you want." Rose groaned. "Just hurry up!"
"Thanks. Sorry." He quickly put the gun on the chair, rubbing his hands together. "The Controller is linked to the transmissions." He waved a hand at the woman. "The entire output goes through her brain. You're not a member of staff so she doesn't recognize your existence."
"What's her name?" Rose asked.
"I don't know." He frowned as he revealed it to them. "She was installed when she was five years old. That's the only life she's ever known."
"Door's sealed," Jack announced from where he stood near the control board. "We should be safe for about ten minutes."
"Keep an eye on them." The Doctor ordered.
"But that stuff you were saying about something going on with the Game Station." The man in the tie said. "I think you're right. I've kept a log. Unauthorized transmats, encrypted signals . . it's been going on for years."
Eager, Rose took a step forward. "Show us."
