Goodbye Nine. Thank you for being my first Doctor...

"And Red? Before I go, I just want to tell you, you were fantastic. You both were absolutely fantastic."

Two minutes laterROSE HEAD LAID DOWN IN LILY'S LAP and they remained on the floor of the TARDIS' console room. The Doctor had helped her carry her sisters inside and since closing the doors they've been silent, waiting for Rose to wake up. Lily was running her fingers through Rose's hair. "It's killing you, isn't it?" She looked up at the Doctor who was currently leaning over the TARDIS console in deep thought. "You're gonna regenerate."
He let out a short, humorless chuckle. "That's how it normally goes." He stated and sent the TARDIS in flight.
Before Lily could say anything else, Rose began stirring, waking up. "Mhh, what happened?" She moaned, lifting her head off Lily's lap. Lily kept a hand on her back to steady her. "Lily?"
"I'm right here." She smiled, tucking a strand of Rose's hair behind her ear. "You don't remember?"
Rose rubbed the bridge of her nose. "I remember singing?"
"That's right." The Doctor jokes, with a laugh. "I sang a song and the Daleks ran away."
"I was at home?" Rose shook her head trying to remember. "No, I wasn't, I was in the TARDIS, and there was this light." She frowned. "I can't remember anything else."
"Lily Carter and Rose Tyler." He said fondly, looking at the sisters still on the floor. "I was going to take you both to so many places. Barcelona. Not the city Barcelona, the planet Barcelona." He added with a grin. "You two would love it. Fantastic place. They've got dogs with no noses." He laughed and Lily would have too if not for the circumstances. "Imagine how many times a day you end up telling that joke, and it's still funny."
"Then, why can't we go?" Rose asked.
"Maybe you will, and maybe I will. But not like this." They both carefully stood as he kept talking. "I might have two heads or no head. Imagine me with no head." He shot them a shared look. "And don't say that's an improvement."
"Oh my god." Lily watched the gears turn in Rose's head. "You're regenerating."
"Yep." He confirmed. "But it's a bit dodgy, this process. You never know what you're going to end up with." Bpt sisters paled when he groaned in horrible pain, hunching over, having to clutch onto the console for support to keep standing. He held up a warning hand as they stepped forward to get to him. "Stay back!" He commanded.
Lily took Rose's arm and held it, keeping her close. The blonde was still confused. "But why? Why is this happening?"
"I absorbed all the energy of the Time Vortex, and no one's meant to do that. Every cell in my body's dying." He explained, clutching onto his middle as he strained himself. "I'm changing, girls. That means I'm not going to see you again. Not like this." The Doctor grinned, gesturing to his face. "Not with this daft old face. And before I go-"
Lily held back tears as she forced out. "Please, don't."
"Red?" His eyes met hers and it pained her she'd never see that exact shade of blue again. "Before I go, I just want to tell you, you were fantastic." His grin brightened, then looked at Rose. "You both were absolutely fantastic." The Doctor tilted his head. "And you know what?" When the sisters shook their heads in unison, his eyes twinkled. "So was I."
The Doctor stumbled back and straightened his back. With arms spread out, his body was engulfed in a familiar golden light- the same Lily had seen various times when past Doctors did the same thing hers was doing. It was so bright and blinding that the girls had to shield their eyes. Only when it started to die down and fade did they lower their arms.
Gone was the Doctor they'd come to recognize. Gone were his short-cropped hair, his big ears, and blue eyes. In his place was a skinny man with warm, brown eyes and matching hair that stuck up in various places.
He looked straight into Lily's eyes and beamed. "Hello!" He told them in a south London accent instead of the northern one. Hearing that sound made him make a face and look down, running his tongue over his teeth. "Okay." He said slowly like he was trying to get used to his new voice. "Ooo, new teeth. That's weird." He commented and looked back at Lily and Rose. "So, where was I?" He remembered, grinning. "Oh, that's right. Barcelona!"
