Forever and Always. [Legolas x Reader]

Fear

  ~Y/n's pov~

I tried to spend as much time with Legolas as possible before he left, but unfortunately, between him packing, me looking after the children and Legolas getting rest so he can leave early, we didn't have too much time together.

~early the next morning~

I wake up early so I can say goodbye to Legolas. I stand up and see Legolas preparing his weapons that he had brought with us.

I walk up to him and hug him tightly from behind. "I love you, my king."

"I love you too." Legolas says in a whisper.

Legolas sits his weapons down. I let him go and he turns to face me. He picks me up, I wrap my legs around him so we can hug easier. We hug for a while.

We pull back from our hug, Legolas presses a kiss on the tip of my nose before sitting me back down and resuming preparing his weapons.

Legolas puts his quiver full of arrows, and his bow on his back. He sheaths his daggers then grabs his bag.

I hand him a bag that contains Lambas that I brought from Mirkwood. "Don't forget to eat." I kiss his cheek.

Legolas smiles. "Thank you, Aurë."

Legolas walks to the cradle and kisses both of the Elflings' foreheads.

Legolas looks back to me. "I am afraid It is time for me to leave."

Sadness washes over me as I nod. "I will walk outside with you"

Legolas puts his cloak on. He puts mine on for me, I clasp it together.

The cloak covers the majority of my nightgown.

Legolas wraps an arm around my shoulder as we walk towards the door. He opens the door and we make our way outside.

Aragorn is already outside with Arwen. He hugs and kisses her before mounting his horse. Gimli comes outside and gets on a horse with Aragorn.

Legolas readies his horse before hugging me tightly. "Arwen and you will ride to Gondor  escorted by guards tomorrow."

"Okay." I mumble into his chest. "Be safe."

"I will, my Queen." Legolas kisses the top of my head before pulling away.

Tears fill my eyes as he presses his forehead against mine. I close my eyes, causing tears to fall. I keep them closed.

"Soon, I will come back to you, I promise." Legolas promises again softly in sidarin.

"You better."

I open my eyes as Legolas pulls his forehead from mine. Tears keep running down my face. I fear to lose him. Losing him is a thought I cannot bear.

Legolas wipes my tears. "Everything will be fine. I will be fine. You will be fine." He comforts.

Legolas presses a kiss against my lips before hugging me tightly once more.

"I love you, Legolas." I whisper.

"I love you too, Y/n." Legolas whispers back.

We pull away, Legolas mounts his horse.

"Farewell." Aragorn says.

Gimli waves. "Goodbye, Lassie."

Legolas smiles softly as I wave them goodbye. They ride away.

Arwen hugs me as we watch them ride away.

Arwen and I left for Gondor the next day. The days went slow. the long days turned into weeks, and still no word from Legolas, Gimli or Aragorn.

~3 weeks later~

A Guard of Mirkwood rides into Gondor with Gimli, Aragorn, and his army. exited, I run to meet them.

"Is the war over?" I ask.

"Yes, my lady." The elven guard answers.

I look around."Where is Legolas?"

The guard looks down. "I have come here to tell you that our beloved king has given his life in battle..."

I stand there in shock, my worst fear has come true. Tears roll down my face.

"I am sorry. I am so sorry, Y/n. I tried. I should have tried harder." Aragorn says, almost in tears himself.

Gimli remains silent.

I cover my face as I sob.

Aragorn dismounts his horse and hugs me. "I am so sorry." He repeats over and over.

I shoot up. My breaths are shaky. Warm tears roll down my face. I wrap my arms around my stomach and cry as as quietly as I can. I rock myself back and forth while tears stream down my face.

I wish Legolas were here to hold me and tell me everything is alright.

I close my eyes tightly and take a deep breath.

Pull yourself together, Y/n. Stop being so pathetic.

I take a few more breaths then wipe my tears with my arm.

I lay back down and pray to Valar that Legolas will be okay.

Soon I fall back asleep.
