Enter: The Child.
Sol snuggled into the couch, Kol and Elijah at her sides. Earlier that day, she'd purchased the Harry Poster series, having found them on the shelves. It excited her to find the movies existed in this universe, and that she was able to share the films with her family. Everyone had gathered in the living room with blankets while wearing their pajamas. Enzo, regrettably, was not joining them. He'd found a small apartment to call his own while he's in town.
"This whole story is about warlocks?" Kai looked at Sol who was tossing her legs over Kol's lap while leaning into Elijah.
"Wizards, but yes. Harry discovers he has magic and goes to school to learn more about it. He also fights against a powerful wizard who tries to kill him every year."
"He wants to kill a child?" Finn furrowed his brows, not understanding the motives of the powerful wizard.
"Yep, it has to do with a prophecy. That's all I will say." With a nod, she started the first movie. She had informed them all that the first couple movies were quite lighthearted and then slowly got darker. They'd made it through the first few movies, pausing in between to get more pie and snacks.
By the fourth movie, they were all hooked. Niklaus was upset with Ron for believing Harry put his name in the goblet when it was quite impossible for him to have done so. Rebekah seemed perturbed by Cho's flirty behavior towards Harry before revealing she was going to the Yule Ball with Cedric. Finn was wildly concerned that the school let teen participate in these live threatening challenges. Kol and Kai were enjoying said challenges. Elijah, however, seemed to be enjoying that he could turn off his brain and simply enjoy a movie his family.
When Cedric was killed, Sol's eyes became misty. Kol, on the other hand, had his face scrunched in disgust. "Why's he putting his foot on the boy's face? I get killing annoying obstacles, but that's disgusting."
Kai jumped in without even looking away from the screen. "He's disrespecting Harry, seeing that he wanted to protect Cedric. Not that Voldemort respects anything anyways, but disrespecting a corpse, friend of Harry's, is quite in character."
The boys had a field day ripping into Umbridge during the fifth movie. She was an adult woman who enjoyed bulling children, and pink an unhealthy amount. It made for quite the easy target.
Their next target was Draco, after seeing Sol's motherly compassion towards him in the next film.
"He's trash, just like his father." Kol insisted.
"No, he's stuck in a trashy environment with his flaming garbage father. Narcissa and Draco don't know how to get out alive."
"Who the hell is Narcissa?" Niklaus turned to Solène, who was adamant about defending Draco.
"Draco's mother, you'll see her later." The siphon waved her hand and looked back to the screen to watch Harry and Draco fight in the bathroom. Her eyes grew misty once more, seeing Draco bleeding out on the floor.
Rebekah gasped when Snape killed Dumbledore, watching him fall from the tower. Kol and Kai were excited to see the chaos that was bound to ensue with the man's death, which was lightly sated when they saw Hagrid's set aflame by the death eaters.
When they all realized that it was the last film, they all grew even more curious as to how it ends.
"That's it? What about the war?" Kol threw an arm out towards the television.
"Sorry, my love," she patted him on the cheek. "You'll have to read the books or wait for the next film to release."
"I don't have the time to read, nor the patience to wait for the release."
"You're immortal, honey. You have an infinite amount of time."
Before Kol could could retort once more, there was a soft knock on the door. Everyone raised their brows. They'd started their marathon in the last afternoon, the siphons settling for an early dinner, and it was late in the evening now.
Solène was the first one to move towards the door. Nothing really scared her, not in a house with her family. The rest of them were quick to follow her, worrying about a sudden attack... what attacker would knock on their front door.
Pulling open the door, she noticed a small child, whose teeth were chattering away.
"Oh, sweetheart," Sol frowned. The young girl was only in a t-shirt and shorts, which were dirtied. There were some bruises peaking out from her short sleeves. "Come in and warm up." Offering her hand to the young child, she shared a sad look with her family. Hesitantly, the young girl accepted the hand offered to her.
She was sat on the couch covered in blankets, which were immediately wrapped around her. It wasn't long until she began to feel warm.
"Do you want to tell me what you were doing out there all alone?" The little girl gripped the blankets tighter, unsure if she wanted to share. "Let's get you some food, hm? Are you hungry? You can think about it while you fill your stomach."
Nodding, the girl curled up further into the blankets. Walking into the kitchen, she found her family members discussing the little girl.
"You think she's lost? Do we drop her off at a fire station?" Kol asked.
"I think that's only for abandoned babies," Rebekah thought aloud.
"It would be wise to call the authorities." Elijah noted before watching Sol make a peanut butter sandwich for the kid.
Slapping the bread together, she smiled at them. "Or we can talk to her first. See what she'll tell us and go from there." They hadn't seen the bruises on her arms. Sol wanted to know the story the girl had to share before contacting anybody, or deciding what to do.
Presenting the sandwich to the girl, she smiled. "Could I ask for your name?"
"Maya," she muttered before taking a bite of the food. "Thank you," she added in between bites. It took her less than a minute to finish the sandwich, only concerning Sol further.
"Will you tell me what's happened to you?"
Dropping her gaze to her dirty shoes, she felt a mix of emotions bubble into her stomach. "They didn't want me anymore. The people who adopted me."
"Why do you feel that way?" She asked, not noticing everyone peeking into the room to watch. They watched her handle the child with more delicacy than she handled them, which fit this current situation. They had no idea what had happened to thing child; what brought her to their doorstep.
"They said so themselves." She grit angrily. "It wasn't my fault! But they keep saying that it was! That they shouldn't have adopted me. They were figuring out how to send me back," tears of anger and sadness filled the girls eyes.
Sol, sitting next to the girl, gently rubbed her back. "Can I know what the accident was?" If the girl said it wasn't her fault, chances were that it was an accident. Sol didn't believe the child would run away over a small incident.
"My friend and I were playing in the big tree. We always did, but I slipped. I grabbed the tree... I didn't know I'd hit him though. He fell, but he didn't get back up." Sobs escaped the small girl. "They said I killed him. I didn't mean to."
