Beverly's POV

Alone in the room, the radio plays as I punch the punching bag, training by myself. In my head, I prepare each different move, perfecting my punches and high kicks. The bag sways as I double punch, me having to hold it with both to prevent it from coming off the ceiling. I'd blocked out all noise until one distinct one breaks through the walls, knocking my concentration.

The door swings open, and it hits the wall violently. I turn my head, seeing Abraham excited as he strolls over to me. I stop my movements, turning all my focus onto him. He runs over to me, his long white coat floating behind him freely.

"You okay, Abraham?" I ask.

"It finally happened!" He exclaims. "SHIELD accepted my experiment."

"Oh, congratulations." I pull him into a hug.

"Thank you! All this hard work will finally pay off."

I pull from the hug, smiling down at him. His glasses hang off the end of his nose, sweat forming on his forehead from clearly running over here. His office is on the other side of the compound, away from the training room. He straightens up his lab coat, looking up at me nervously all of a sudden.

"Well, actually. I wanted to ask you something." He squirms.

"Okay?"

"I need a volunteer."

"Oh, that's great. I was actually thinking about this after you told me about the experiment. I know someone who would be perfect for this."

"Really?" He seems shocked.

"Yeah. My friend, Steve." I smile. "You've never met him before, but I know he can do this. He may not be physically worthy, but he has the biggest heart, Abraham. And he is one of the smartest people I know."

"I know of him, Beverly. Agent Carter has told me about him. I've seen his courage and passion."

"Then you know he is perfect for your experiment." I insist.

"Maybe, but he wasn't who I was thinking of."

"Really? Who then?"

"You."

I stand still on the spot, staring at Abraham shocked. He looks nervous, his lip trapped under his top teeth. I stutter, finding it unbelievable that he thinks I can do such a prominent experiment. I know that Steve would be perfect for this, way better than me. Even he would agree with me if I told him. If I could tell him. He has a huge heart, more courage and brains than I do, and he has the motivation to win the war.
