It was to help me shift. I kept reminding myself as I lay in my bed exhausted and running a temp of 102.4 I tossed and turned. I hated this! I groaned as my body was so tired. But the fever was to change my temperature to match my wolves for the rest of my life, the fatigue was my body storing all energy to help with the shifting and the moodiness was to help control the wolf anger your easily prone to get angry at anything because humans don’t see the threat like we wolves do. Like for example punching the alpha’s shoulder in the human language it was a sign of friendship like a friendly tap but in the wolf life it’s a sign of a challenge.

I just needed to get through this then I would no longer feel so much pain. Why did I have to change now! I growled at it then the door opened and Tony walked in. “hey cuz.” He greeted I threw a hair dryer at him earlier for walking into my room unannounced. “What!” I barked and shook my head “sorry.” He nodded and said “Alpha’s here.” Jango walked in and looked at me. “You look like shit.” He stated I growled and he smirked. “Well at least you’re better then yesterday.” Tony nodded. I rolled my eyes this was my second day with the fever tomorrow was going to be brutal. As I growled in my bed Jango said “are you ready for tomorrow?” he took a seat by my bed. “It’s gonna hurt the whole day Ruby but I know you can get through this.” I nodded and growled as my fever spiked once again. I needed rest. I closed my eyes.

I felt Jango and Tony still in the room. They were watching over me. As I rested I heard Tony ask “why didn’t you tell her!” Jango sighed and stated “she’s in too much pain to know about that just yet.” Tony growled and said “Alpha if he sees her it’ll hurt more.” Another sigh “well tell her after her shift.” Jango stated all through my change Jango has been here. Anna too there sleeping in the guest room watching over me as I change. I love my new alpha and Luna. They actually care for me. So I will lay my life on the line for them. Anna was like my real mom she took care of me. Always brought in food that would help cool me down a bit. She tried to sooth me any way she could. That’s was a Luna was a mother.

I still am bewildered by her strength; Ruby is the strongest wolf I have ever seen. I can’t believe she is this strong to fight against the pain. She went through the pain of rejection only to wake to become a full wolf. I wouldn’t even be able to fight against this. I watched as she was peacefully asleep. When she shifted I had to tell her that the alphas were meeting… here. All of them which meant her old alpha and asshole mate were coming. I wasn’t sure if she could handle it but I had to tell her. I only prayed that whoever the other alpha’s brought would be her second mate.

Anna walked in and took her hand sitting by her. “The fever is gone she’s stable now.” She stated before being my mate Anna was the pack doctor’s pup. Anna looked up at me and asked “does she know now?” I shook my head no. “I won’t tell her yet.” She nodded then asked “Jango I have an idea to help her. We can put her on patrol with Hank and Tony along with the others. So she can stay away from him and be safe. She’ll only be back in the afternoon for two hours then back on patrol.” I nodded that would help her and also get her use to shifting. I smiled I had such a smart mate. Now all I had to worry about was the black crescent pack led by the newly appointed Asher Hoss. They were a ruthless pack and I needed a treaty with them. The rogues were becoming a problem now.

They were slaughtering every wolf in sight. We needed to become stronger then we already were. I sighed and looked at Anna. “I think your idea is perfect.” She smiled at me and I put a hand on her shoulder. “Anna… about Ruby she needs a rank...” Anna smiled and looked at her. “I thought about that too. Jango we both know I’m a barren wolf.” I sighed yes it was true Anna couldn’t bear children so my alpha line stopped at me. “Yes.” I stated letting her continue. “Well what if we make Ruby our successor? She has the alpha gene by her ex-mate.” I nodded true. “And she has no one to lead it’s like the goddess wants us to adopt her.” I smiled and nodded “you think she can lead them well?” she looked up at me like I was stupid. “She’s already got the attitude of a true Luna! You see the pain she goes through yet she’s still fighting to go on. She’s a perfect Luna.” I nodded “I can see that and I do agree with you.”

Ann the tucked a red streak behind Ruby’s ear “you hear that Ruby you’re gonna take over our pack.” I smiled Ruby… she was such a unique wolf. She took all this pain in stride fighting the whole way, she knew she was going to go through this yet she didn’t harm herself to end her life she kept fighting. Tomorrow Anna and I were going to be by her side the whole way. No matter what Ruby was our adopted daughter now. She was an alpha. I turned walking into the hall where I saw Tony. “My cousin Hugh?” he asked he heard us. “yeah.” He nodded and said “you picked a good girl as your successor.” I nodded and he walked with me down the hall. “Let’s go tell the pack about the new alpha.” Tony ran ahead excited his cousin was going to be his alpha.

As we walked into the pack house everyone started asking questions about Ruby how she was doing and if she shifted yet. I laughed it was like she was already the alpha. I think Anna was right the moon goddess had a plan for her as our alpha. As Tony talked about his cousin I listened he didn’t say about her new title but he was reporting about her wellbeing. “Alright every one!” I called they all looked at me. “The Luna and I have decided her rank now.” All ears and eyes were on me. “Ruby is going to be the next alpha in line.” I waited few seconds and suddenly everyone was cheering. “I KNEW IT!!” I heard so many scream. They were expecting me to say that? Wow. As they celebrated the new alpha Hank jumped up shouting “we have to protect her!” I saw three guys run out the door as Tony screamed she was sleeping and ran after them. “Hank during the alpha meeting I want you and Tony to go on patrol with Ruby help her train and keep her away I don’t want her to go through more pain then she already has.” He nodded and asked “is he going to be there?” I nodded and he growled. “leave it he no longer concerns us.” He nodded and said “I don’t want him here.” I shrugged and stated “he’s an alpha now can’t help that.” Hank took to Ruby like a brother as has most of my pack.
