the challenge

~Asher~

I had so much fun surfing with Ruby I had to say she was really good at it. I watched as Ruby drank as she as ton her towel. She got up at that moment and walked down the beach. Tony watched her go and then Hank asked  “where is she going?” Tony replied saying “it’s a secret she won’t even tell me but every time we come here she runs off at some point.” I got up and followed after her. She walked to the rocky area where the land went up creating a large cliff. She jumped from rock to rock until she went around the cliff gone from sight. I followed after her and saw in the shadow of the cliff a small cave. I made my way over. As I reached the cave I saw Ruby walking along inside it looking at the walls. I walked in and she turned to me. The roof of the cave was leaking from the stalagmites at the entrance of the cave was a pool of water leading to a beachy area. So you could probably surf into the cave.

“did you follow me?” she asked. I shrugged and said “you didn’t say I couldn’t.” she smiled and I walked over seeing a drawing on the wall of the cave. It was of a family. A mom, a dad and a kid. “you draw that?” I asked Ruby shook her head no. “no. my mom did when she was my age. This was her secret place. She use to take me here when I was little to show me her secrets. She told me this was the place where she decided to go to where my papa was. So if she never came here then she wouldn’t have had me.” I looked at her so this is her secret place. “that’s pretty cool.” She nodded and said “every time I come to the beach this is where I always visit. I feel like I can go back in time here.” I smirked and walked up to her. “I ever tell you that your the coolest person I ever met?” she smiled at me and said “no you haven’t.” I saw the look in her eyes. She was actually remembering her past she had a faraway look about her.

As we walked along the cave I saw a small cot in the back. “you sleep here?” she nodded and said “sometimes.” I nodded and walked over I sat down and she sat by me. “this place was my home away from home no one knows about it but me and well now you. I come here when I need space from everyone.” I smiled at her and laid down. “I can see why it’s very peaceful.” We spent hours just talking in that cave. I would ask her a question about herself and she would do the same to me. I found out so much about her. She was the perfect person. She never cared for trouble and didn’t want to cause it, she wanted to see everyone she cared about happy. I really had an amazing mate.

I woke to the sun shining in my eyes. I sat up feeling a little weight on my hips. I looked around I was in the cave. I remember talking with Asher late into the night but that was it. I looked to my left seeing Asher just waking up. “I guess we fell asleep.” He stated I nodded and we made our way out of the cave. Asher was such a kind person and I think I have a problem… I think I like him. Not as a friend. Asher is so sweet to me but I can’t afford to get hurt again. We reached the beach seeing every one passed out with some guys in the sand some on the Tiki bar while the others took the hut house. We walked over to the bonfire and Asher sat on the sand. I joined him and looked at the waves crashing on the shore. The big waves would be coming in soon. I got up grabbed my board and hit the waved. I looked back at Asher and he was chasing after me. We surfed along the waves I kept whipping my board over the white water.

I splashed Asher and he laughed as he tried turning the board he was getting pretty good at this. We kept surfing until we heard shouting. I looked to the beach seeing Tony waving at us to come in. We surfed in and I walked up to Tony. “Alpha called we gotta head in.” I looked at the position of the sun. It was late in the afternoon. We all packed up and headed to the pack house. Asher and I were in lead since we were alphas. We walked into the pack house and I ran upstairs changing out of my bathing suit. I pulled on a black tank top with a zip up red sweater. I pulled on my jeans and slipped my shoes on. I ran to the pack meeting room and saw the other alphas all waiting. “ah good now we can begin.” Anna stated I walked over and Asher smiled at me.

I stood by Anna as the meeting went on… it was hours of talking once again. Man I wish I stayed on the beach. I noticed Nathan giving me a lustful look from his seat. I sneered at him and then Anna blocked me from his view. Something was going on… what it could be. Suddenly I heard Jango state “well since that is covered I would like to formally state that I issue a challenge against Nathan Jotan for the assault against Ruby Hoodly.” My heart dropped into my throat. What… but that meant I had to fight Nathan and… a growl erupted from the room and Asher stood at his chair. “NO!” he roared his eyes were pure black at this point. I stood there in shock Asher was refusing the challenge. Jango looked at Asher the door burst open and Hank fell in with Tony. “Alpha you can’t be serious!” Tony shouted. Everyone looked around like what just happened. If I lost the challenge I would be submitted to Nathan as his.

I was just in shock that Jango would say this without talking to me first. Asher growled loudly might I add right at Nathan. I fell to the floor Anna turned to me and patted my back. “I accept.” Nathan stated and got up walking out of the room. “it will be good to have you in my pack again Ruby.” He stated before he left. “JANGOO!” was the last thing I heard as I fell towards the floor as my world went black. I woke in my bed with Tony at my side. “hey cuz you ok?” he asked I shook my head no. “how can I fight an alpha Tony.. I’m a beta born I can’t win.” Tony smirked and said “yeah you might not have to fight.” I raised a brow as he stated “Asher took care of that…”
