❞⁀➷♡'ˎ˗ "i'm detective tsukauchi, by the way."
"what year were you born?"
"1982."
"and you said you're a devil hunter?"
"a civilian devil hunter, yeah."
"that tall figure that follows you, what is it's name?"
"sora."
"and does it speak?"
"yes, but she can only repeat exact phrases that i've said."
"is she dangerous?"
"only if i tell her to be, or if she's protecting me."
"is there a reason she isn't here?"
"i can summon her at will but she dissolves after a few hours, i haven't brought her back because i know she will break the handcuffs."
"and what year did you say it was?"
"1995."
the suited man rubbed his face with what you could only assume was exhaustion. you smiled and coughed lightly, trying to ease the rooms tension.
"i would give it to you, but.." you shook the handcuffs that kept you stuck to the chair from behind. "if you reach into my blazer pocket, you'll find my devil hunter ID. not sure if it'll mean anything here, but it'll tell you i'm not lying at least." he sighed and smiled back at you tensely. "i know you aren't lying, that's the weird part about all of this." despite his contradictory statement, he reached forward and pulled your wallet out of your blazer. he looked at your black amex card with your name that didn't come up in any of their systems, as well as the ID you spoke of. "a devil hunter at 15?" you nodded. "it'll take a bit of explaining to get you to understand that. we'd have to start with what devils even are." he nodded in understanding. "then hold that thought for just a second." he stood and walked behind you, you considered turning to watch but you felt the man unlock the cuffs around your wrists from behind you. he placed a comforting hand on your shoulder and you twisted your neck to look up at him. "there's someone i need to bring in here first, once i do i want you to tell us everything. i'm detective tsukauchi, by the way." you nodded and bowed respectfully. he bowed in response before finally exiting the room.
you considered calling upon sora, but feared her reaction to the confinement. so instead you rubbed your wrists from the pink marks the handcuffs left on your skin before laying your head down on the table. who knew that rift-walking could be so tiring? you hadn't quite realized how fatigued you felt, not until now of course.
it wasn't long till you drifted off to sleep in the interrogation room, waiting for tsukauchi and this unknown person to return.
but likewise it wasn't long before they did and you awoke with a jolt to the sound of the heavy metal door scraping against the concrete. you turned to the entryway and gave a curt wave, rubbing your eye as the detective walked in the room, a man with black hair and a long scarf following behind him. there was a tiny mouse that followed as well, but you knew better than to ask questions involving animal-like appearances after you grew acquainted with the commission's fiends.
