"she's not my daughter, nemuri..."

aizawa looked through the window of the buildings staff room with crossed arms, you laid on the break room couch with a blanket over your shoulders, sleeping soundly.

"i can't do it."

"why not? she's a well mannered kid, and she's pretty mature too. seems more like you'd be living with a little adult." midnight chimed, watching you from the window as well.

"it's not her, i've got way too much shit on my plate already. nightly patrols, school curriculum, grading, and teaching. for multiple grades at a time. it's too much, i'll go mad." midnight snickered teasingly.

"if anyone can multitask doing all of that, while also being a parent, i'd nominate you. besides maybe it's time you knock something off that list anyway. i'd suggest the tutoring class, no reason for you to keep doing that."

he turned to face her with a bored expression, though she wasn't sure he ever looked at her any differently since the shirakumo incident. "then who would take my place?" she put a kind, comforting hand on his shoulder. "i'll do it, shota." they shared a brief look, and aizawa scoffed. "yeah right, they'd never learn a thing." she punched his shoulder and laughed. "i'm serious! let's just try it, for one week. you take her in for the week, i'll tutor the kids while you do. you can monitor their grades before and after and decide what to do from then."

aizawa scoffed, but a small smile could be seen if you really squinted. "fine. i'll try it. but i won't say thanks until i review the grades." she laughed and turned back to face the room. "that's fine by me-" her face turned to equal parts shock and confusion. "what- is that?" shota turned to face the room, and a tall black figure stood at your bedside. it looked down at you before gently lifting you up and positioning itself underneath you and pulling the blanket over you both, despite it only really covering you. then it snugly wrapped its arms around your shoulders.

"tsukauchi mentioned it, but seeing it in person is pretty jarring."

"is that her quirk?"

aizawa dwelled on the question for a moment.

"kind of, yeah. she's a special case."

"how so?"

he briefly recapped your situation, as well as your condition. she nodded in understanding. "that's.. rough? doesn't really explain the shadow, though. i mean, how does a death devil equate a living ghost?" aizawa shot her a look and she avoided it, sweat dropping. "yeah, now that i've said that out-loud, i realize it sounds a bit silly."

he turned back to face the room once more. "even so, i think theres something she isn't telling us." she smacked his shoulder. "well, that's for you to find out! have fun with your new daughter!"

"she's not my daughter, nemuri.." he groaned as she trotted off, leaving him to sit against the window sill with his thoughts.

thats when he noticed you had rolled off of the couch and landed on the floor, now very awake and talking to the shadow figure which soon helped you up. you two sat side by side on the couch before you turned and pointed at him, giving a wave as the shadow mimicked you with a more timid wave. he waved back and it looked to you for approval, you flashed a thumbs up with a wink.
