"better him than me."the green boy was the last to come running out in his costume behind everyone else, you couldn't help turning to steal a glance at him.
what the fuck is he wearing...
"oh, deku?" uraraka asks from beside you as she turns to find where your gaze had landed. "uraraka!" deku reciprocates her greeting. "that looks so cool! really down to earth." she exclaims, walking over to him. you merely give him a short wave that he's too flustered to return, but you see him give you a nervous nod in reply as he covers his mouth with his hands. "i should've written what i wanted..." uraraka trails off, rubbing the back of her head nervously. "mine ended up being tighter than what i would've wanted, it's embarrassing." she mumbles, looking bashful.
you approach from behind, standing beside her as you eye the costume. "no, i like it. it's really cute." you say, and uraraka gives you a shy smile in response. "thanks, y/n!" you smile at her softly in response, and when you do you notice a little grape boy staring at her. "eh? is that a kid?" you ask, leaning down and tilting your head. "did you get lost? how did such a young boy get on campus..." you trail off and the boy says something about you being "height-ist" and walking away. "wha...?" you ask, looking confused. uraraka laughs and pats your shoulder. "don't worry about it."
your class eventually groups up, with you standing in the front between bakugo and yaomomo. you have no idea how the angry blonde ended up beside you. he steals a glance before clicking his tongue and you tilt your head in confusion once more.
what did i do? oh, right. his desk.
"sir!" iida's voice calls from the front of the students as well. he's the one in that fancy suit of armor, pretty cool looking actually. "this is a battle center from the entrance exam, so will we be conducting urban battles again?" he asks with a hand raised respectfully. all might extends a hands with two fingers up in a peace sign. "no, we're going to move ahead two steps!" he cheers informatively. "most of the time, fighting villains takes place outside, but if you look at the total numbers, atrocious villains appear indoors at a higher rate. imprisonment, house arrest, backroom deals-- in this society filled with heroes, truly intelligent villains hide in the shadows!" he says, a hand clenched to his fist and held in front of his mouth as if holding a microphone.
"for this class, you'll be split into villains and heroes and fight 2-on-2 indoor battles." an aura of excitement begins to waft from bakugo in your direction. you and yaomomo exchange looks. "without basic training?" frog girl asks, tilting her head with a finger near her chin. "this is a real battle to understand those basics!" all might informs, and you nod your head.
i get it, this is how kishibe taught me. i assume we won't be trying to kill each other here, though.
"however, the key this time is that there's no robot you can just beat up." all might says, and yaomomo speaks up from beside you. her soothing voice draws your full attention and you watch her as she asks her question. "how will wins and losses be determined?" she asks, and bakugo tail ends her question as well. "can we beat them up anyway?" when uraraka speaks next, you can admit you're getting a little irritated. isn't this supposed to be school? "will the punishment be expulsion like with mr. aizawa?" she asks nervously. iida raises his hand. "how shall we be split up?" you catch a glimmer in the corner of your eye and turn to it. a blondie with a sparkly cape is flaunting it. "isn't this cape beautiful?" he asks, and you can't help wondering what that has to do with anything. you offer him an approving thumbs up regardless.
"i'll answer all your questions...!" all might says, a bead of sweat falling down his face. "now, listen here." he opens a tiny book that is far too small for his unreasonably large hands. "a script?" midoriya asks surprised.
"the situation is that the villains have hidden a nuclear weapon somewhere in their hideout. the heroes are trying to dispose of that. the heroes need to catch the villains or get the nuclear weapon back in the allotted time. the villains need to protect the nuclear weapon for the whole time or catch the heroes." all might explains, and midoriya chimes in at the end. "the situation feels very american!"
???
what does that mean.
"teams and opponents will be determined by drawing lots!" all might announces, and iida seems disappointed. "they're being decided so haphazardly?" he asks, and you can imagine the disapproving frown under his mask. midoriya chimes in. "pros often have to create makeshift teams with heroes from other agencies, so maybe that's why?" he asks inquisitively. you're busy staring because he literally has a finger up.
erm, acthually...
"i see. the discernment to look ahead... please excuse my rudeness!" iida says sincerely, bowing. all might spins around, pumping one fist into the air. "it's fine, let's do this quickly!" you quickly interrupt. "excuse me? we have a class of 21. if it's 2-on-2's, then one of us will have to form a team of three or fight alone. also, another team will have to fight twice if that's the case." all might turns around, letting out a nervous laugh. "actually, young yūrei! you will be fighting alone alongside the help of your quirk, and after lots are drawn we will put all the letters back in the box and you will pull another team to fight twice." you nod in understanding. "alright, carry on."
you probably should've been bothered that you had been singled out, but aside from the fact that sora was probably the strongest thing here "quirk" or no quirk, you also had the most experience out of all your classmates, so you were fine with a 2v1.
team a: midoriya and ochako
team b: shoji and todoroki
team c: mineta and yaoyorozu
team d: bakugo and iida
team e: mina and aoyama
team f: sato and koda
team g: kaminari and jirou
team h: tokoyami and tsuyu
team i: ojirou and hagakure
team j: sero and kirishima
team k: yūrei (and sora)uraraka and the other friends you had made on your first day seemed pretty happy with their teams, except yaomomo who's hand rests on your shoulder, her lips tugged into a small frown. "i had been hoping we'd have gotten the chance to work together, i feel like our personalities and quirks are perfectly compatible for this kind of exercise." she says, pouting slightly. you nod in agreement with her but offer a reassuring smile. "it's okay, you're brilliant so i'm sure you'll win regardless." she laughs nervously, looking away as pink dusts her cheeks. "thank you. i just feel bad that you're being singled out the way you are. it's no fair, really." you shake your head with a smile once more at her worried remark. "don't worry, it'll be okay. my dev-- quirk is really strong." you reassure.
"the first teams to fight will be..." all might trails off, his hands digging around the baskets labelled "hero" and "villain" respectively. "these guys!" he shouts, holding up the letters A and D in the air. "team a will be the heroes, and team d will be the villains. everyone else, head toward the monitor rooms!" he exclaims, and the class echoes another "yes, sir!" better him than me. you think as you watch the blondie glare at the greenette. you turn to walk with yaomomo when he calls out to you suddenly.
"miss yūrei!" you turn your head, tilting it curiously. "come here for a moment!" you step forward and he gestures to the villain bucket. "it's already been decided that you'll approach from the role of 'hero', just pick out your team in advance since a team will be fighting you twice regardless." you nod your head in understanding before reaching into the bin and grabbing the first letter-labeled ball you feel. when you pull it out, it's team d once more.
that's karma for thinking what i did earlier, isn't it?
"team d, it is! feel free to join your classmates, young yūrei."
"miss yūrei!"
