"we're chilling, right?"

the two weeks leading up to the sports festival passed rather quickly. aside from the two visits you had made to recovery girl and the occasional devil fight that you had to step out of class to handle, with permission of course, nothing too interesting had happened. your corruption percentage was at 24%, and the sensitivity to sounds had returned alongside some odd changes in your vision which was causing disorientation and migraines. it seems about a 4th of the way through your natural senses are the first to change and adapt.

your tastebuds changed a bit, but it was nothing bad. everything tastes a whole lot better, and actually, devil meat tastes sorta decent too. definitely not good, but not gag worthy like before. sometimes, you get weird cravings for blood.

your hearing was heightened, evidently. you could pick up conversations from halfway across the house, and sometimes you could hear vlad's lectures through the wall behind you that connected with class 1-b's classroom. it wasn't too distracting luckily, and with yumi to help she was able to block out things that you didn't want to hear.

your sight wasn't fully finished developing, but you were able to see things faster than others now. you catch blinks of light that others don't, and colors are a lot more... colorful? it's not a pleasant change, but you'll probably have to get used to it. you can see things that are further away, too. which was useful, you supposed.

the only sense that didn't change was touch. you supposed being a devil would make you more tolerant to pain, but since you were already an ajin who had experienced a few deaths, your pain tolerance was already pretty high. that change had been minimal.

the increase in your sense of smell wasn't too useful either. in fact, it was just really overstimulating. you could differentiate your classmates based on the scent of their blood alone. even while it was trapped in their veins. kind of gross, wouldn't recommend.

honestly, you would be lying if you said you weren't curious to see the rest of the changes that come with the corruption. sure, they have painful or irritating side effects while they're occurring but some of them are pretty useful after the changes have set in. also, you and yumi had agreed to call the corruption 'distortion' instead. it seemed more fitting, since it was a distortion of your consciousness rather than a corruption of it. if you were to disappear, you wouldn't have been corrupted. you would just be... gone. that's different.

it was mostly because you both agreed that the corruption sounded like "some cringe tokyo ghoul shit", and i quote.

"man, i wanted to wear my costume..." mina says with a pout, tugging on the sleeves of her tracksuit. ojiro is stretching when he turns to mina to reply. "to keep everything fair, we can't." he says, smiling softly. you rest your head on the table as you let out a yawn, paying no mind to the chatter of your classmates. after a few moments pass the class rep slides the door open, his booming voice officially more irritating than usual due to your distortion levels. "everyone, are you ready?" he shouts. "we will be entering soon!"
