"even if you can't die, you shouldn't be so carefree about your life."you didn't really expect any of the other heroes to be told about your situation, and the fact that they took interest in you was an even bigger surprise.
"wow! i really like that one, show me the back!" midnight urged, or aunt nemuri as she insisted you call her. you turned your back to her and examined the outfit in the mirror while you had the chance. you wore baggy white pants that scrunched at the bottom above your sneakers. they were paired with a white undershirt and a beige sweatshirt with red bold kanji on the front.
you had to admit you were honestly surprised by the modesty of the outfit considering her hero costume, but all things considered she had an exceptional fashion sense. you quite liked the outfit, despite not being accustomed to wearing so much light colors if you don't count your typical dress shirt. normally, you wore clothes you dug up from bins for the homeless. when you were homeless of course. with public safety, your wardrobe consisted entirely of the same uniform every day. most civilian sector devil hunters wore casual clothing, but you had none and were a special case so makima provided you with many a uniform.
nemuri clapped with excitement and pushed you gently back into the changing room. "show me the next one!" you stripped out of the cute outfit and did a once over of it as you hung it on the rack. it really was quite cute, but should you wear clothes so easy to stain? your abilities were too messy, not to mention that you were just a messy person. prone to dropping foods and spilling drinks. against your better judgement, you still hung the outfit on the keep pile before throwing on the next one.
the next outfit was high-waisted mom jeans that were clearly manufactured for someone much taller, they pooled on-top of your shoes but you assumed it was a stylistic choice. the fashion trends in this era were vastly different, but you appreciated the variety they held. there was a cropped, black wife beater paired with a less cropped baggy sweater. it was cute, but you slapped at your exposed stomach.
'so vulnerable..'
you pushed the thoughts of the many ways you could be impaled to the far corner of your brain.
'i suppose it really doesn't matter, since i'm an ajin. immortality bonus?'
you stepped out of the changing room and nemuri squealed. "i love it!! too cute, too cute!" she cheered, spinning you around to get a full view as you smiled. she was really a joy to be around, even if she was a bit pushy. "okay, i'll take this one too then." you turned to enter the changing room when she suddenly gasped, smacking both hands over her mouth as you flashed her a confused look.
"you. need. cargo pants."
you spent that trip being dragged from store to store, tossed into outfit and outfit. she shopped for just about everything you'd ever need, from regular socks and associated undergarments to pajamas, training outfits, casual, formal, you name it, she found it. worst of all, she INSISTED on paying for all of it. even you grew pale at the prices in the stores, the inner welfie poor kid in you screaming and clawing at the walls at the idea of paying such prices for some fancy fabric. though, you assumed inflation must be different now and malls are usually pretty expensive if you don't count the food.
