Startling awake, I rolled out of my bed in the Ravenclaw dorms, sleep still in my eyes as I fumbled for my glasses. Spring may have been on the way, but the castle was still chilly in the mornings.

I tied my hair back from my face, the loose strands falling around my cheeks as I prepared for the day. I stretched, trying not to wake my dorm mates. Still in my pjs, I went to leave the comfort of our room for the fire in the common room.

Having a common room in one of the tallest towers of Hogwarts was beautiful, but it could be cold if you didn't know where to go. I wrapped a blanket around my shoulders as I curled up in one of the comfy chairs by the fire.

The warm glow lighting up the comforting deep blues and causing the astral trimmings on the walls to glow somewhat. It was still dark outside, the sun not yet risen and the frost still lining the windows.

I shivered. It was earlier than I had anticipated, but something had woken me. Like a dream i didn't remember but it left my heart pounding. It was very strange indeed. I wouldn't call it fear, I had faced many things in my first year at Hogwarts and they had made me braver, i had proven my own capabilities ten times over.

But now that it was quiet, it seemed my anxiety over things that had happened were seeping back in. As we were still on the christmas break, the school term hadn't resumed and many of the students had returned home for the holidays.

I was awaiting a letter from my parents, to see what they had gotten up to on their holidays. My heart ached a bit, as this would be my first christmas alone. My parents had decided last minute to visit our relatives overseas, as my Nan was getting older and was soon to move in with us.

I didn't mind, as I adored her, but it meant that I was here at Hogwarts. As the fire crackled, I watched the flames dance in a seemingly beautiful rhythm that I just couldn't understand, the hypnotic shapes swimming in my vision, providing comfort. The warmth combined with the quiet was too much, as I was once again lulled to comfortable sleep.

I awoke to find Samantha gently tapping my arm, as she smiled down at me. "Hey sleepyhead, what are you doing out here? It can't be comfortable." I yawned, stretching my arms high above my head.

"You'd be surprised how comfortable it is Sam, although, I think i slept strangely as my neck is now killing me." She smiled, sitting beside me. "Want me to have a look?" "Nah, I think once I move around a bit it'll ease. What time is it?" she pointed out the window.

"Morning obviously! I came out to water my dittany plant. We should get dressed, food will be served soon." I nodded, rising from the comfort of the chair, moving my stiff limbs gently. I didn't even recall falling asleep, and yet I had slept so deeply.

Strange indeed. Today was proving to be a strange day, but I hoped that it remained uneventful. I trailed down the stairs back to my dorm room, my roommates had already left it seemed. This gave me free reign to choose what I wanted to wear.

Something comfortable would be best, comfortable but presentable. I looked in my trunk, pulling out my favourite deep blue woollen dress and slipping it on, along with some tights and boots. No need for our uniforms today.

I fixed my hair into a braid, letting it fall behind my shoulders. I checked myself in the mirror. My clothes were presentable, but the dark rings under my eyes were definitely not. I sighed. Maybe I wasn't over everything from last year.

But who could even possibly begin to understand that? Professor fig was the only one who came close, and he...I paused my train of thought, feeling tears well in my eyes. Professor Fig, my mentor and friend. He was gone now...and while I wasn't to blame, I missed him a great deal.
