Chapter 16

When I finally reached the great hall, it was a relief to sit down. Walking on crutches was tiring, I wished I could've just had Ominis and Sebastian float me around again. "Good morning beautiful." Ominis greeted, sliding into the seat beside me and quickly kissed my cheek. I blushed.

"O-Ominis...someone may see." he chuckled. "Not If i'm quick. You look stunning today by the way." "How would you know?" I teased, earning another laugh. "I just do. You always seem to dress to impress, although today I would hope that you were dressing for me." 

I rolled my eyes as he put an arm around my shoulders, giving them a squeeze. "Hey...you're hair.." he trailed off, seemingly surprised that it was out. I hummed. "Want to play with it?" "Yes please!" He said eagerly, lifting his hand to play with my hair. 

He was so easily pleased, although i did remember his wanting to play with my hair back when the boys thought I was asleep. His fingers were gentle, he didn't tug or yank at the long wavy strands. He seemed happy to just run his fingers through it. 

"Sebastian told me about what you said yesterday." He noted suddenly, and I blushed. "Y-yes well...it is the truth, thats how I feel about you both." he hummed in response. "To be honest, I was having the same thoughts, but wasn't sure how to bring it up. I am glad he did, so that we could clarify." 

I smiled. This was a first for all of us, we'd have to take things as they went. "I know it's not very conventional, but I just can't seem to choose. If i did i'd be breaking both your hearts and my own, and that wouldn't make any sense." He hummed, distracted. 

I glanced at him, he was trying to tie some of the strands of my hair into a smaller braid. I giggled as I could see him getting frustrated. "It's just hair! How on earth does it get so tangled so easily?" "It takes some practice."

Sebastian joined us after awhile, looking troubled. He sat quietly on my other side, wanting to be close. "What's on your mind? Did you have nightmares again?" I asked cautiously. He sighed, shaking his head and slumping over his plate of eggs and bacon. 

"I just wish Anne would let me see her..." I felt Ominis pause. "She's doing alright Seb, isn't that enough?" He sighed again, heavier this time. "It should be, I guess I should be glad I'm hearing about her at all..." I took one of his hands and gave it a squeeze. 

"Hey, she's agreed to write to me occasionally, I'll update you whenever I can." He looked at me mournfully, but gave a sad smile after a moment. "I just...miss her." he said quietly. I smiled gently. "I know. But she just needs some time to herself, to rest and work through some things. At least knowing that she's doing well is unfortunately going to have to be enough for now."

 Ominis had remained quiet, unsure of what to contribute. "Why don't we tell her about our plans for today Sebastian?" he asked carefully. Sebastian brightened, sitting up. "Well, we have a plan! Have you looked outside today? The snow is melting and it's gorgeous out!" 

As he said that, a loud clap of thunder rang throughout the castle, rain beginning to pour down on the windows. I slapped my hand over my mouth, fighting the temptation to laugh. Oh the dramatic timing. 

Sebastian groaned. "Nooooo...It would've been so perfect..." he trailed off, despair once again crossing his features. I leaned on his shoulder, smiling. "Don't worry, I may have an idea on how to help. So what did you two need?" Sebastian huffed, and Ominis sighed. 

"We needed to be outside..." I fought off another giggle. "Not a problem." The two looked at me like I was insane. "Tell you what, if you two can help me get up the stairs, I can show you a little secret of my own. What do you think?" 

They paused, before nodding. "Let's go then-" "Wait, at least tell us where we're going?" Ominis asked. I shrugged. "We're heading toward the astronomy tower, I'll say that much." Ominis looked even more confused. I stood, grasping my crutches. "Come on you two."
