TTT-Chapter 12

A bit of time passed as I continued to try and prepare for the next task, I sat absentmindedly by the lake, the locket in my hand. "There you are!" I heard Imelda of all people call, Sabrina by her side. 

"Hello you two, what's the matter?" "What's the matter? As if you've forgotten!" Imelda huffed, Sabrina nudging her side. "She obviously has a lot on her mind, don't you think it'd be kinder to just remind her?" I looked at the two confused. 

"We're going shopping for dresses for the Yule Ball! We're meeting Poppy and Natty in Hogsmede!" I groaned. "Oh I'm so sorry, I forgot...I thought it was AFTER the next task." Imelda rolled her eyes and smiled, shaking her head.

 "It's on Saturday! How on earth did you forget!" I smiled, getting to my feet and joining them as we got on our brooms and flew to Hogsmede. "So, what are you thinking for your dress?" Sabrina asked me as we landed. 

"Honestly, I haven't given it much thought..." Poppy and Natty joined us, Poppy hooking her arm with mine. "Honestly, maybe you could base it off who you're going with?" I gulped, my face turning red as the girls looked at me in confusion. "No one's asked me..."

 The girls looked to each other, and I could feel tears springing to my eyes in embarrassment. "But I thought..." Natty started but trailed off. I coughed, hastening to walk in front of them. "It doesn't matter. Let's get you guys the dresses you need!" I plastered on a smile, stepping into Gladrags.

 I greeted Mr hill, who was pulling out a rack of some of the most beautiful dresses I'd seen. "Ah! Hello ladies, take some time to peruse. I understand the yule ball is coming up, and we've just received a new collection!" I sighed, sitting to the side to wait my turn as the others browsed.

I had forgotten the Yule ball, the one thing I had been so excited for at the beginning of this year. I didn't realise that people were asking others to be their date, I had just assumed that it was a party everyone could go to, alone or otherwise. 

Imelda walked out in one of the most stunning emerald dresses I had seen, that hugged her waist but flared out at the bottom as she twirled while looking in the mirror. Sabrina was still looking through the dresses, chatting absentmindedly with Poppy. "Emmy, you should still come and look! There are so many beautiful dresses here." Natty encouraged. 

I made my way over, trailing my fingers over the beautiful fabrics, however none of them seemed to jump out at me. "Anything caught your eye?"Mr Hill asked, to which I shook my head as I watched both Natty and Poppy walking into the changing room. 

"I'm sorry, I suppose I'm just a little overwhelmed, I'm not used to parties." He placed a hand on my arm, nodding. "Well...we could also make something custom, if you had something in mind. But that would just be for you, as a favour." He said quietly. I thanked him quietly, before sighing.

"I'm going to go. Please let the others know I've gone back to Hogwarts. I'll come back another time..." He nodded, watching me go curiously. I had thought either Sebastian or Ominis would have asked me to go with them to the ball by now...did they just assume we were all going together? How would that work? I wiped my eyes, trying not to look at others while I walked. This was humiliating, but there was really nothing I could do.

"Emmy wait!" Sabrina hastened to catch up to me, looping her arm in mine to slow me down. "Sabrina! Did you need something?" I grinned at her, but something told me she knew it was fake. " where are you going? You didn't get a dress yet." She asked, worried. 

I sighed. "I may as well just sit the yule ball out, no one has asked me, and I don't even know how to dance! Parties just...aren't really my thing." She pondered for a moment. "What?" I asked. "It's just interesting, you can stare down a kelpie but even the thought of a ball leaves you nervous." 

I scoffed. "I am not!" she shot me a look, her eyebrow raised. I sighed, still walking toward the castle. "I should be focusing on the tournament anyway..." "Emmy, you do know that those who are champions will be LEADING the first dance at the ball, right?"I groaned. 

I found the nearest stone wall by the entrance, sitting on it. "Rina I don't know...I'm not used to parties, and I hate when everyone's eyes are on me." "well, everyone's eyes are going to be on you anyway, so why not give them something good to look at?" It made sense, but I didn't want to go alone. 

I knew I wanted to go with Seb and Ominis, but I didn't want to have to ask them... "You know, I know of a few people who were going to ask you to the ball." Sabrina piped up suddenly, smiling cheekily. I gave her a blank look, unsure of what she meant. 

"You have no idea, do you? Multiple people have tried to approach you, and you've either been busy or they've been stopped." "They what?!" I exclaimed, causing a few passers to turn and look at me. I smiled politely shaking my head, before turning back to Sabrina. 

"What do you mean?" "Well, I know Leander was going to ask you, he was just waiting to get you alone." she started, and I shuddered. Leander wasn't bad per say, but he had never seen me as I was, and always just assumed that I'd want to go out with him. 

He also had no problems insulting Sebastian and Ominis, and that simply wasn't ok. I shook my head. "I couldn't go with him..." "Well, there was a rumor that Jason was going to ask you as well?" Jason? From durmstrang? I hardly knew anything about him, but I supposed he was handsome. 

But that didn't feel right either. I HAD two boyfriends, you'd think that one of them would want to escort me. "From your expression, I'd say you already have someone in mind. Maybe you could ask them to go with you?" I sighed, looking up to the sky.

"Maybe, but I'd rather be asked. It feels more special that way." Sabrina hummed, nudging my arm. "Don't look now, but I see your two best friends coming this way." Sebastian waved, Ominis shooting a smile my way. My expression must have soured because Seb began to look worried.

"I'm going back to the castle...I'll see you later." I hailed my broom, taking to the sky as tears started to fall down my cheeks. It shouldn't have been complicated, but I felt a bit hurt that neither Seb or Ominis had asked me yet. 

It seemed that I was the only one without a date, and If I had to lead the schools in a dance as Sabrina said, then it would be even more embarrassing if I turned up alone.
