SS-Chapter 3

I went inside, climbing the stairs to find Dad showing Sebastian into the room next to mine, my brother's old room. It wasn't huge, but large enough to fit two single mattresses. The walls were a pale green, as my brother had liked the colour and asked a couple of summer's prior if he could paint his room.

 It was a tad ironic. I walked past, dragging my trunk into my bedroom, the familiar setting bringing a smile to my face. My room was painted purple, the window looking out the front. I could see Ominis and my mother discussing something quietly, Ominis having calmed down. 

I sighed, hoping things were going well. I wanted Sebastian and Ominis to feel welcome here. I trusted my parents to do that, but I still wasn't sure how they would take staying with a muggle family. I shook my head.

 I had to have faith this would work, otherwise it would be a disaster. I tugged my trunk onto my bed, beginning to unpack. It was funny, so many of my clothes were for winter when going to hogwarts, and yet at home the weather was always warm. 

It was never hot, sometimes chilly, but never as cold as hogwarts. As I put things away I heard a knock on my door. "Can I come in?" I heard Sebastian ask. I turned, nodding. "Hey Seb, how are you finding everything?" He walked in, drinking in the room, eyeing my large bookshelf which was stuffed to the brim with books.

 "Y'know I'm not sure why I expected any different, this room suits you perfectly." He said softly, a smile playing at his lips. "I've never seen Ominis break down like that..." I said, worried. Sebastian's smile fell. 

"You have to remember darling, neither one of us had a very good home life. But at least my parents treated Anne and I well until they died..." He trailed off, a frown now replacing his smile. I sighed, dropping what I was doing and going to his side. 

"What's the matter? I know you're not just worried about Ominis." I put a hand on his cheek, to which he turned his head and kissed it, sighing. "I just wish Anne were here to see this...She would have loved it." I pulled him close, patting his back.

 "My love, Anne is doing well. And I have offered, but she needs to be ready. I know it's torture not knowing where she is, but isn't it enough knowing she's safe and well?" He pulled away, sitting on my bed, letting out a huff of frustration. 

"I wish it were enough for me...but it just isn't." I sat beside him, leaning my head on his shoulder. "I'm sorry Seb, truly I am...but these things take time. We have to wait until she's ready." I had said these words to him a few times, but Sebastian was impatient and I could tell he was getting frustrated.

 However, there really wasn't anything I could do anymore. I had been allowed to tell him of what Anne was writing to me, the books she had been reading and the new foods she had been trying. I had even tried to deduce where she might be based on the food she was trying, however none of it had seemed to work. 

She was truly trying to remain hidden, and there was nothing I could do. We sat together for a while, before I pushed myself up. Sebastian eyed me curiously. "Want to read my favourite muggle book from when I was a kid?" I offered coyly. 

His face lit up. "Yeah!" I went to my bookshelf, using my eyes to scan the different books in order to find it. Ah, here we go. I pulled out a thick dark green hardback book with black lettering. Grimms fairy tales. 

I passed the book to Sebastian, who looked confused. "Fairy tales? Like tales of Beedle the bard?" It was my turn to look confused. "What's that?" "Like you don't know! Babbity rabbity and the cackling stump? The hopping pot?" As we looked at each other in confusion, we burst into laughter. 

"Right, I keep forgetting you grew up with muggles." I shook my head and rolled my eyes, walking out. "I'm going to find Ominis, you should take some time to unpack your stuff while no one is looking." I quickly pecked him on the lips, leaving his face pink. "Remember, my parents don't know about us either, so keep things out of sight for now."

I ran into Ominis coming up the stairs, almost running into his wand in my haste. "Ominis! There you are! I was just coming to make sure you were alright?" He blushed, nodding. I got the hint, sensing that my parents may have been listening. 

"Come on, I can show you to the room you and Sebastian are going to be sharing." I said loudly, taking Ominis' hand and pulling him behind me. I looked back to see my mother peeking from behind one of the walls, she ducked away as soon as I spotted her. 

Unfortunately for me, my family had a habit of being incredibly nosey. While they never spoke out of line or pried too much, they had a habit of snooping just when you didn't want them to. At least now I had charms that I could place in my room to ensure they couldn't hear our conversations. 

As I walked into my brother's room I turned to look Ominis over once again. He seemed...happier? Or at the very least more relaxed. "Your mother is extremely kind, now I know where you get it from." He said shyly. I blushed.

"Yes, unfortunately you can blame all of my wildness on my parents." I said teasingly. Ominis brushed a bit of stray hair behind my ear. "I already feel so much more at ease here...thank you for bringing me darling." he said earnestly. 

I pulled his forehead to rest on mine, wrapping my arms around his waist. "I'm really glad it helps. Trust me, the longer you stay here, the more at home you'll feel." he chuckled quietly. "I really hope so, your parents are wonderful, frankly I'm a little jealous that you got to grow up this way. I'm not sure what I expected but it wasn't this. Call me pleasantly surprised."

 I hummed in response, enjoying the closeness, before pulling away. "I'll let you get settled. I've got to kick Sebastian out of my room before he steals any more of my books." "He what? Sebastian! Get out of there and come help me unpack!" 

I giggled as Sebastian came flying in, 3 more books in hand. "Oi! You better give those back when you're done!" I nudged his arm playfully, before leaving them to it, walking back downstairs toward the kitchen.
