TTT-Chapter 22

The crowd cheered as we exited, I could hear a few gasps at Zuri's condition. I sat her beside Natty's cot, stepping to look at the bottles with the others. "Which is which??" Alice asked. 

"I don't know, but we don't have much time. What do these colours have in common?" Jason asked in response. "They're Hogwarts colours, but that doesn't mean much..." I offered, my anxiety eating away at me.

Ominis was now sitting beside Sebastian's bed, wringing his hands with worry. And with Zuri passed out, no one would be able to save Natty... "Houses!" Alice then cried, stunning Jason and I. 

"What?" "What colour are your house banners? Each one of us has a different one, yes?" I looked at each of their shirts, noticing the different ties. "She's right! That means the yellow one is Zuri's, the green one is yours Alice, the red one is yours Jason, and the blue one is mine."

I took the blue and yellow bottles. "How do we know if they work?" Jason asked me, but I was already heading over to Natty. Since Zuri was out cold, I refused to let my friend suffer this poison.

Raising the yellow bottle to Natty's lips, I poured the golden liquid into her mouth. After a moment, Natty's eyes opened, as she gasped for air. The bottle in my hand began to wriggle like it was changing.

I put it in Zuri's hand, ignoring it for now and making a beeline for Sebastian. Alice had made her way over to her bed, with her date from the yule ball inside. Jason hung back, watching us for a moment. "Get a move on!" I shouted at him, before feeding the golden liquid to Sebastian.

His eyelashes fluttered before he gasped and shot upright. Relief filled me as I clung to him, taking Ominis' hand as well. "Thank Merlin! You're alright!" Before Sebastian could answer, a loud buzzer went off.

"And that's an hour! Our champions have all done well! Each one has their clue for the next task, and it looks like all antidotes have been administered! Please wait as our judges discuss placements!" Professor Black announced.

I heard Jason cry out in frustration. "Brother! Wake up please!" I left Sebastian's side, only to see a devastated Jason crying at his brother's bedside. His brother was still asleep, but didn't look as sickly now. Jason's shoulders were shaking with a mix of anger and sadness.

I didn't understand! He gave him the antidote? I spotted Professor Sharp in the crowd, and raced toward him. "Professor! What the hell is happening?! Why isn't Jason's brother waking up?!" Professor Sharp looked pained. 

"It was Professor Black's idea...the antidotes to the potion I made only last for an hour, when Mr. Petrov hesitated, he lost the only amount of time he had to wake his brother." My stomach dropped, and I felt sick. 

"Professor...how could you make such a thing?" "I'm sorry but these trials are meant to test you. He will be alright, I'll start to work on an antidote straight away." I swallowed. "How long will it take?" "A week, if I work quickly." 

I nodded. "Please, work as quickly as you can." Professor Sharp nodded solemnly, before walking away. I walked slowly back toward Jason, putting a hand on his shoulder to get his attention. 

His eyes snapped toward me, and I could see the anguish in his eyes. "Jason, your brother is going to be alright-" "How?! How is this alright!!" He shouted into my face. I took a breath to steady myself. 

"Professor Sharp said the antidote only lasted an hour. He's going to make another one, but he said it will take a week. I'm so sorry..." Jason put his head in his hands. I tried to reach out to comfort him, but he gently batted my hand away. 

"Please...I just need to process this...Thank you for telling me." I nodded, heading back to Sebastian and now Natty as well.

"What the hell is going on? Where are we?? Have you completed the second challenge yet??" Natty bombarded me with questions. I sat next to Sebastian, leaning my head on his shoulder. "Rough day?" He asked with a smile.

 I sighed. "You two have no idea how close you came to being asleep for a week. This was the second challenge, and it was up to us to save you." Natty and Sebastian looked at each other in surprise. 

"Where is Zuri? I wish to thank her." I pointed toward Nurse Blainy. "She took a pretty nasty head injury, so be gentle with her." "I'm so proud of you love." Ominis noted fondly. "I'm just so glad I got back in time." I offered weakly. 

"Attention all! We have been made aware of certain circumstances that took place in the tunnels. As such, we have agreed, Jason Petrov as first place!" The students of Durmstrang cheered loudly, but as I looked over to Jason, it appeared as though he didn't hear any of it.

"Now due to her extraordinary organization skills and leadership, we have elected second place go to...Emily Kingston!" Surprised, I looked to Alice, who grinned and gave me a wink. I smiled, nodding to her. 

"Followed by Zuri Okeke, for her extraordinary bravery, third place! And Finally, Alice sprig in fourth place!" Each school cheered, excited now that another challenge had been completed. I turned to Alice, surprised. 

"Alice? What did you tell them?" "Well, it was you who came and got us when Zuri got knocked out, and you who made the plan to begin with. I actually thought you should be first place, but the judges disagreed." She shrugged, and I hugged her.

"Thank you...I'm just sorry you had to come in last." She laughed. "It's a nice change. I usually come in first for these sorts of things." She went to speak with her professors, leaving me alone with my thoughts. 

I looked up into the stand...to see Ominis' parents glaring down at me. Confused, I flashed them a smile and wave. Their facade returned, as they smiled a little too brightly and waved back. They had something to do with this...I wasn't sure how or why, but I just knew it.

Back in the champion's tent, Sebastian handed me the clue I had received. It looked like...a carnival ticket? I turned to the others, but none of them seemed to understand either. 

Jason looked as though he had lost all hope, Zuri trying her best to comfort him. Alice was eyeing me curiously but said nothing. Could this year get any more strange?
