I sighed contentedly as we rode the train from the city back into the countryside, my boys both with me as I gazed out of the carriage window. The weather outside was warm, the sun shining as beautiful scenery flashed by, the trees tall and strong almost creating a tunnel with their leaves.
I was finally going home, after the craziest year and christmas break, I was going home. I couldn't stop the smile from being painted on my lips, my head resting on my hand as I dreamt of the things we would get up to. "How much longer?" Sebastian asked, shaking my shoulder.
I blinked, taking a breath. This was the second train we had been on, a muggle train. I glanced at Sebastian and Ominis, processing the question. "Sorry my love, I was worlds away. I'm not sure where we are, but I promise after this it'll be a short ride and then we'll be home."
Sebastian groaned, slumping on his seat across from me. He had already finished the book he had been reading, and was eyeing mine, absent on my lap. I chuckled, passing it to him. "Just don't lose my bookmark and no spoilers if you read ahead of me." He brightened, snatching the book and shuffling to be more comfortable.
Ominis seemed more calm, content to simply listen to the train, though I had to admit, even he was beginning to seem bored. "Do you do this every summer? It is a frightfully long trip." he asked me, to which Sebastian huffed in agreement.
"It's ages! I'm lucky I'm a broom flight away from the castle!" I smiled. "Well apologies to you two, but I don't have the luxury of that. And besides, we're staying with muggles, so any use of magic would get us in trouble. But I promise that it will be worth the wait."
Ominis leaned on my shoulder, wanting to be closer. "Tell me about where we're going, please? I can't stand the wait!" I had written to my mother, asking if the boys could stay with us whenever we weren't in school. She had been delighted, very curious to know my classmates and whether or not I was being taken care of.
"Please?" Ominis asked again. I shook my head. "Nope. I want you two to be able to explore. Though I should mention, because my parents took me to Professor Fig when I first started, they know all about the wizarding world. So while I ask you not to go overboard, you'll be fine to use your wand Ominis." I felt Ominis relax a bit.
"Thank goodness. I was worried about how I was going to get around." I patted his head. "I could've been your guide my love. Though I ask that we do keep the spells to a minimum. As I said my parents do know about magic, but I don't really want a letter from the ministry do you? Plus, I do get the feeling it kind of makes my parents uncomfortable."Ominis nodded, leaning back and closing his eyes, the train carriage falling back into comfortable silence.
After another hour, we arrived at the station, the three of us careful to pull our trunks behind us and to stash our wands away. Ominis struggled the most getting his trunk on the trolley, however thankfully Sebastian helped him to put it into place.
As I glanced around my home station, I noticed the eyes of a group of girls I had grown up with scanning Sebastian and Ominis both, trying to determine my relationship with them. I felt jealousy prick in my chest, but I smiled devilishly. I walked in between Ominis and Sebastian, taking each of their hands and giving them a squeeze.
"Don't look now, but we're being watched." I mumbled to them. Sebastian looked their way, to which they responded with bright smiles and suggestive poses. He chuckled, shaking his head as he pulled me closer, kissing my forehead. Ominis laced his fingers with mine, kissing my cheek.
My face felt hot, as I felt an unknown joy snake its way into my heart. I glanced back at the group of girls, a few who had bullied me in my younger years, scowling at me. I laughed, seeming to surprise both Sebastian and Ominis.
"So...who are those girls?" Ominis asked. "No one even worth knowing my love, I can promise you. Come on, let's go home." I released both boys, grabbing my trolley and walking proudly past the group, ignoring the dirty looks that bore into the back of my head.
"Hey-"One of them tried to call to Sebastian, who simply responded. "Sorry love, I'm not interested in handouts." I bit my lip to hold back a laugh, going to find my family's carriage. My father waved me over, looking absolutely overjoyed to see me.
"How's my little girl?" He asked, crushing me with the biggest bear hug I had ever received. I giggled, wrapping my arms around him. "I'm good Dad, merlin it is so good to see you!" He slowly released me, looking down in confusion.
"Who's merlin?" I shook my head. "It's a magical expression dad, I'll explain later. Dad, please meet Sebastian and Ominis, two of my best friends and my closest confidants." I said fondly, Sebastian raising his hand to shake my fathers.
"It's a pleasure to meet you sir, thank you for letting us stay." As my dad smiled warmly at him, I noticed him look at Ominis curiously. "And you son?" "Oh! I-I'm Ominis, Ominis gaunt sir." Ominis raised his hand nervously, unsure of what my father wanted.
As dad shook his hand I explained. "These two don't really have families anymore, so I thought they'd do better staying with ours." Dad shot me a look, one that said 'I want to know more about this later.' before his smile returned.
"Well welcome boys! We've never had magic folk staying with us but I'm sure this will be a warm welcome. Now why don't you three get settled in the carriage? It's a bit of a trip to our home." We climbed inside, my dad whipping the reins. With a jerk of the carriage, we started off toward my home, the cobblestone path clacking as we went.
"How'd we do?" Sebastian asked, fidgeting with his hands. I smiled. "Really well! He does want to know more about you both, so I'm taking that as a good sign." Ominis sighed heavily. "I do hope we aren't being any trouble..."
"Ominis my love, my mother is the type who would have 6 or 7 kids if she could've. She's going to love you both, and love the energy you both bring!" I said confidently. They both remained unconvinced, but fell quiet, Sebastian looking out the carriage window, Ominis closing his eyes as though to start napping. I found myself shaking my head and smiling.
