I knew there would be no reasoning with them like this, so instead I started to climb out the window to go and sit with my father. "What on earth are you doing?" Sebastian called in alarm, to which I laughed.
"It's fine! I'm just going to have a chat with dad!" As I had done many times in my childhood, I climbed onto the front of the carriage, sitting beside my father who snickered and handed me the reins.
"Nice to know my little girl isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. I thought that school was supposed to teach you how to be a charming young witch?" I pushed his arm playfully, before he pulled me in for a one armed cuddle.
"I missed you honey." He said fondly. "I missed you too dad, truly. I wish you could come with me to hogwarts, it's the most beautiful place..." I trailed off, remembering the complex halls that held many secrets still undiscovered, but the stone walls holding the warmth unlike any other I had ever experienced.
"Honey, I know you want to bring these boys home, but can you tell me...more about them? The blonde one seems particularly nervous." Dad finally asked me. I nodded. "Ominis is one of the sweetest people I've ever come across dad, he's soft hearted and gentle, but extremely intelligent. However his family are...uh..restrictive, and possibly abusive, which is why he is so careful with his actions."
Dad processed what I was saying, staring forward as he often did when he was deep in thought. "He's blind right?" He then asked, to which I nodded. I heard him growl quietly, his jaw clenched. " No child should ever have to go through that, let alone one who doesn't have the ability to recognise a smile or a scowl."
"I don't think he's as helpless as you're thinking. He may be blind, but he can always tell when someone has good intentions. He knew I was a good person when we first met, despite the fact I may have lied to him?" Dad looked at me surprised, to which I shrugged.
"He could tell I was a bad liar, even without seeing my face going red. That has to count for something." After a moment he laughed, shaking his head. "Well you certainly picked that up from your mother and I. And what of this Sebastian? Doesn't he have parents?" I sighed.
"No...His parents died in a magical accident, after which He and his sister went to stay with their uncle. Recently their uncle died as well, and Anne...well she went traveling, so Sebastian was left on his own. But he really is a lot of fun once you get to know him! He's extremely intelligent and loves to have fun." I worded carefully.
I couldn't lie to Dad, and this was technically the truth. "Well, you definitely know how to find those broken birds honey..." Broken birds was a term my dad often used when I brought friends home and he didn't know what to make of them yet.
It meant he understood they had trauma, and issues of their own, but he was waiting to see what they were like with me before deciding how to act. More often than not, in my childhood I had been bullied by said 'broken birds' or abandoned by them, so he knew to be careful until he observed more.
"It's not like that Dad, not at all. If anything, those two have gotten me out of more trouble then I care to admit, helped me with studies, made sure I knew where everything was, even made sure I knew the extra spells being taught to me so that I could get ahead. They're really good to me, and I'm hoping you can see that." He patted my shoulder, humming.
"I believe you, but I do want to see how they act myself." I nodded. "I know, but please be nice? This will be their first time staying with muggles, and I think they're worried about doing something wrong." I heard him chuckle softly.
"They couldn't, but I'll be nice. Seems like they need it. I've made up your brother's old room, so hopefully it's to their liking. Your brother has gone traveling again, and won't be back until you're back at school I'd imagine." I nodded again.
