November

I sat in my boss's chair, facing the big window looking outside as the snow blew around the downtown streets. I was agitated. About what? I can't tell you. Maybe it's because I saw Nikki again. Or maybe it's because he didn't want to speak to me again. Which I don't blame him. I shook my head from my thoughts when I heard my phone ring. I pressed the button on the phone.

"Yes, Theresa?"

"Hi um... Iman, uh. You have someone out here who I'm not sure if you want to see."

"And who's this?"

"It's Nikki."

I let out an annoyed breath, rolling my eyes while letting my head fall backward.

"He got his order. He just wants to go over it with you."

"Or yell at me." I groan.

"I don't think he will. He looks like he's in good spirits."

I huffed and rolled my eyes again. "Fine. Give me three minutes, then send him in. But before he comes in, please let him know that security will be called if he acts out in my office."

Placing the phone down, I reached up to scratch my neck but instead pulled my hands into a fist so I could stop myself.

"Get it together, Iman."

I fixed myself up. There was a knock at the door. It was Theresa. I gave her the Okay to allow him to come in.

"Good... morning." He stuttered a bit, walking with his box in hand.

"Good... good morning." I stuttered, responding.

The atmosphere was tense. Theresa stood behind him and gave me a thumbs-up. I didn't understand what that meant. I gave her a closed-door look, which she did. I then turned back to Nikki, who was biting the inside of his cheek.

"Nice office you have here." He casually spoke while walking around.

I furrowed my brows in confusion. "Um... thanks."

I'm not sure why he's complimenting my office. He's been here lots of times. But maybe he missed how good it looked because he was too busy shouting and making a scene. So, I guess I'll take the compliment.

He walked towards the head of an antique that was placed on a small altar.

"Who's this?"

"It's the head of Nefertiti," I answer.

"Oh, who's that?"

"She was the wife of a Pharaoh, King Akhenaten."

"Wow, that's a mouthful." He chuckles, walking over to my desk. "I have to say I love how you made your office look like an Egyptian tomb. All the artifacts and everything. I've never seen an office like this before." He walks behind me, looking around my office again.
