Liza Weil Plays Jess Saxon Tamara's Assistant

Saturday, January 20th, 1990

"Nikki's frustrating me." I breathlessly say as I run on the treadmill beside Jess.

"What really?" Jess huffs. "What's going on?"

"He's still mad at the fact that I talked to Jade. He keeps giving me one-word answer. So, I haven't been calling him. And now he's just yelling all the time." I breathed out.

"Iman, he's just... he's just upset that you went behind his back. And you not calling him is going to make him angry."

"Yes, I know," I say as I stop the treadmill. "I'm trying to stay in touch with him but when he yells it's annoying."

Jess stops her treadmill as well and breaths out. "Ho, what a workout!" She takes her clothes and wipes her face then steps off the treadmill. "Listen, sweetie, find a way to work things out. You guys need to stop fighting."

I stepped off the treadmill and we started walking towards the bench to sit down. We grab our water bottles and take a couple of sips.

"I hear you." I use my towel to wipe my face. "It's just when he starts yelling, I honestly don't want to deal with him. Like I have better things to do than argue on the phone. I don't care to hear his voice." I sneered.

Jess turned to me and put her clothes and water bottle down. "Iman do you what sympathy and empathy mean?" She raised her brows.

"Obviously." I raised my brows and rolled my eyes drinking more water. "What?" I shrugged looking at her as she glared at me with a disapproving look.

"I have to agree with Nikki when he says you can be two different people."

"Yes, he tells me that all the time, but I'm just me." I shrug again.

"You can be. But then sometimes there's that part of you that lacks empathy and sympathy."

"And so..." I sneer again.

"And so, it's not good." She says with a worried tone. "In fact, it's scary... it's scary because Tamara is like that. And I've seen Tamara do things and not feel bad about it afterward. I've also seen her not care about how others feel. Even people you would think she should care about."

I scoff and shake my head then stand up and grab my gym bag. I start walking away from her not wanting to hear any more of her talking.

"Iman!" She called me.

I kept walking completely ignoring her. How dare she say those things about me. That I sometimes lack sympathy and empathy. That I get those things from Tamara. She's lucky Tamara even hired her. She would have still been living at home leaching off her rich daddy's money. Not to mention it was because of me that she even has a relationship with Fred.
