🦋Chapter 9: Stranded In The '80s🦋
With that, I took off, driving faster than I should've. But I didn't care right now. I just needed to get away, to distract my mind that had become my enemy. I made my way to New York City. The place was busy like the New York City I had known, but it was still different than I had been familiar with.
I drove through the bustling streets filled with all different noises that mainly consisted of honks, talking, and shouting. I drove by Greenwich Village, where the Sanctum stood. I parked my motorcycle on the curb as I stared at the building. Memories came flooding back to me all at once. My heart clenched. Tears pricked my eyes as I stared at the Sanctum, knowing Stephen wasn't here. How I would do anything to bring them back. I'm sorry, Stephen...I failed you.
Even Levi seemed devastated as I felt the collar of the cloak droop. Lucky let out a whine, feeling my pain. I ruffled his fur, while I patted the collar of the cloak, which was wrapped around me like a jacket.
"It's all right, you two. We'll find something. We will survive and get through this. What's important is we have each other." I assured him.
With that, I gave the sanctum one last look before I took off, prepared to start a new life while waiting for the team to arrive.

A few weeks passed since we all parted ways. I began to fall in a routine, a rather mudane and dull routine. I was now living in a small apartment in New York City, while I worked at a diner called Moondance Diner as a waitress. It wasn't fun, but it paid the bills. Lucky stayed at the apartment as I could not bring him along with me to work.
I wore a blue uniform, which was a short sleeved dress with a white collar and sleeves. It was just another day. I slipped on my uniform and a pair of white sneakers. Levi was now a red bandana, which I wore on my head with my short bob still a few inches below my ears. My hair was curled. My apartment contained a small living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom. I barely had any furniture as I lived on paycheck to paycheck for rent, food, and clothes. I had very little left after that.
I grabbed an apple and I quickly made some coffee, prepared to take it with me to drink on my walk to work. Lucky stood by the door, letting out a whine. My heart clenched. Oh Lucky. How I wish I could take you with me. But I can't.
"Oh Lucky, you know I have to work and I can't take you with me." I reminded him.
Lucky grumbled, but gave me a nod. I wore a smile before walking out. I opened the door, finding Mr. Ditkovich, the landlord of the apartment complex. He was lurking around by the stairs. My heart clenched. I had been a little behind on the rent, so I had been hiding from him. He demanded I give him the rent and I assured him I would get it soon, I just needed more time. Work was just terrible...and I was barely paid anything.
I took a deep breath before closing my door, rushing down the stairs. I heard him yell out. "Rent!"
As soon as I was out of the building, I sighed in relief. I made it passed him. Now I just have to worry about this when I come home from work. With that, I made my way to the diner to commence another boring and tiring day. The radio was playing the hits of this week. That is until around noon or so when I knew this wouldn't be a normal day as Deke walked into the diner. His eyes lit up when he saw me, making his way to the diner table, plopping down on a stool.
Deke wore a gray jacket, a salmon colored button up shirt, a nice pair of shoes, a pair of jeans, and a watch on his wrist. His hair was neatly combed to the side. Well, looks like he's been doing well. Good for him. Looks like he can adjust and do well in any time, well I'm barely grasping on, hanging by a thread.
