🦋Chapter 10: Deke's, Mack's & Mariana's Excellent Adventure🦋

Oh shit...This is definitely Stephen then. Realizing his sister was still underwater. She needed me to save her.

I gave him a nod. "Lucky, stay with Stephen. I'm going to get his sister. I'll be back soon enough."

With that, I took a deep breath before jumping into the water, which was freezing. It was way worse than any cold shower I've ever had in the winter when our heater broke. Despite the feeling, I fought against it, knowing Donna needed me.

I scanned the water, searching for Donna. I couldn't see her anywhere, making my anxious. But then I saw bubbles rising from underneath me. I lowered my gaze to see the girl slowly sinking towards the bottom. I used all my strength, quickly swimming down towards her.

Her eyelids began to droop as I scooped her up, rushing towards the surface. I held Donna close to me as we reached the hole she had originally fallen from. Stephen and Lucky peered down from the hole, but quickly backed away as we reached the top. Once we were both on the ice, I laid her down. Stephen and Lucky quickly approached us. Poor Stephen looked devastated.

"Donna..." He croaked out.

The girl wouldn't open her eyes. I gently grabbed her wrist, checking for a pulse. My shoulders slumped in relief, when I found one. However, it was faint, which means she needs medical attention and fast.

I closed my eyes for a moment. I'm sorry. I know we weren't supposed to make waves, but this girl is dying. I need to save her. I have to. With that in mind, I placed my hands over her chest before opening my eyes. I then focused on my abilities, transferring some of my strength to heal her. I watched as blue light transferred from my hands into her chest. Her eyes then slowly opened up before she sat up, coughing up lots of water.

Stephen knelt by his sister's side, relieved to see her awake. I grimaced as I staggered back, feeling weak from the healing. I took a deep breath as I gently knelt on the ice, careful not to break it and risk falling into the water like Donna. Stephen carefully inspected Donna, who let out a giggle.

"Stephie, I am all right." She assured him.

My breath hitched. She called him Stephie. Could it be the reason why he hated being called that? Then it all clicked, all the pieces began to fit together. Donna died today, she drowned in the ice. That is why Stephen never talked about Donna let alone said he had a sister or any siblings for that matter. My heart clenched. Did he have this memory when he touched that mystical staff? Stephen and Donna then turned to face me, both looking at me in awe.

"You saved her. Thank you." Stephen said with a grateful look on his face.

"It was nothing. I'm just glad I could save your sister." I replied, returning his smile.

"Well, to us, it meant everything." Stephen informed me. "It wasn't nothing."

"Who are you?" Donna asked with curious eyes.

"My name is Mariana..." I began, hesitating to say my real last name. "....Strange."

They both stared at me in awe. Stephen was the first to speak up. "Are you related to us?"

"No, I just happen to have the same last name as you two, that's all." I replied. "It happens."

"I saw blue light from your hands make its way to my sister's chest." Stephen mentioned in awe. A grin then grew on his face. "Are you an angel?"

I stared at him in awe and completely baffled. I definitely wasn't expecting that type of response. Lucky let out a snort, sounding and looking amused. I'm glad one of us was enjoying themselves. Looks like child Stephen was very sweet and kinder than the version I knew. No doubt, Donna and her death had a part in him changing. I cracked a smile as I corrected him.
