🦋Chapter 25: Assembling The Team🦋
Once Rocket arrived, Bruce and I along with Rocket took his ship, heading to New Asgard. We landed in the field outside of the town. One of the Chronicoms that was relocated to New Asgard, approached us in a truck. The Chronicom was John. He gave me a small smile.
"You are early." He greeted. "You aren't due for another few days."
"Nice to see you too, John." I greeted back.
He then gave me a sheepish smile. "Forgive me, Mariana. I am happy to see you, I am merely surprised, that is all."
I cracked a smile. At least he's making progress. I can't remember how many times I insisted he call me Mariana, when he kept calling me Director Reyes. I then turned towards Bruce and Rocket, introducing them to each other.
"John, these are my friends, Bruce and Rocket. Guys, this is John, a Chronicom, now living in New Asgard along with the Asgardians." I mentioned.
"Pleased to meet you. Any friend of Mariana is a friend of mine." John replied, slightly bowing his head. "Come with me. I shall take you into New Asgard."
With that, John took us in his truck, riding along the coast before heading into the town. Once we arrived at the docks, we climbed out of the truck. I made my way towards the window, giving John a grateful smile.
"Thank you, John." I said.
"Of course, anything for my friend." He confirmed.
With that, he took off. Rocket and Bruce inspected the place, taking it all in as they had never been here before. Rocket didn't seem pleased with what he saw as he blurted out. "Kind of a step down from the golden palaces and the magic hammers and whatnot."
"Hey, have a little compassion, pal. First, they've lost Asgard, then half the people. They're probably just happy they have a home." Bruce informed him.
"You shouldn't have come!" Valkyrie's voice rang out.
We spun around to see Valkyrie, wearing a black sweater with a Norwegian design across her neck, a yellow vest, black gloves, a pair of black pants, and boots. Her dark hair was pulled back in a braid.
"Hey Val!" I greeted, giving her a smile.
"You're back early." Valkyrie mentioned, returning my smile.
"Ah, Valkyrie!" Bruce exclaimed as we approached her. "Great to see you, Angry Girl."
"I think I liked you better either of the other ways." Valkyrie revealed, staring at him in disbelief.
I nodded. "Yeah, me too. This is uh, new, and going to take some time to get used to, a lot of time."
"Very funny." Bruce retorted, rolling his eyes. He then extended a hand out towards Rocket. "This is Rocket."
"How ya doin'?" Rocket asked, giving a small wave.
Valkyrie took one look at Rocket before looking back at Bruce. "He won't see you."
"That bad, huh?" Bruce inquired.
"We only see him once a month, when he comes in for..." Valkyrie trailed off as she glanced over at the huge pile of empty barrels of ale by the docks. "...supplies."
I grimaced. Jeez, things were getting worse than before. Bruce wore a grim look. "It's that bad, huh?"
"Yeah." Valkyrie confirmed with a worried look. "Aside from Mariana, he won't let anyone else see him."
With that, we made our way towards Thor's home. Since I had been visiting Thor lately, I stood in front of Rocket and Bruce, knocking on the door. However, there was no response. Rocket, Bruce, and I exchanged a worried look. Rocket motioned me to open it. Well, maybe he can't hear us. So I opened the door as we walked into the hallway. I grimaced as a horrible smell hit my nose. Jeez, smells like something went rotten.
