🦋Chapter 40: The Strange Squad🦋

After a couple more of their acts, they finally reached the grand finale of their performance. Vision extended his hands as Wanda brought in a huge cabinet. Ooh, so mysterious.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, for our grand finale. I bring you, The Magnet of Crysteries!" Vision exclaimed, earning baffled looks from all of us.

"The Cabinet of Mysteries!" Wanda corrected.

"Yeah, yeah. What she said. I will now make my wife...disappear." Vision announced.

"Are you sure you don't want an audience volunteer named 'My husband Ralph?'" Agnes called out.

We all let out chuckles and laughs. Oh Agnes. She is such a character. Vision also let out a chuckle as he raised the magician wand he had. He then fell serious as he responded. "No."

Vision then tapped the cabinet with his wand. "Abracadabra!"

I furrowed my brows. But Wanda wasn't inside the cabinet yet. Wanda wore a nervous smile as she turned to face her husband. "Uh, sweetheart?"

"Yeah?" Vision inquired.

"Hi." Wanda said as she leaned a hand towards the box.

Vision's face then fell, realizing his mistake. "Oh."

"What's in the box?" Melinda questioned, starting a chant that many in the crowd joined in on. "What's in the box? What's in the box?"

"Yeah, what's in the box?" Vision asked, also baffled.

"What's in the box?" The crowd continued.

The door of the cabinet then opened, revealing Geraldine. I stared in awe. Wow, talk about a plot twist. We all cheered and applauded. Wanda, Vision, and Geraldine then bowed. While Dottie made her way up to the stage, Vision and Wanda returned backstage. She began giving out awards. I did not think we would win an award, but I was proven wrong.

"On behalf of the planning comittee, I would like to award Mr. Stephen Strange, Mrs. Mariana Strange, and their family with the inaugural best family performance of the year." Dottie announced.

I exchanged a shocked, yet happy smile with Stephen. We then quickly made our way up to the stage, retrieving the award from Dottie. The audience burst out in applauds and cheers. Once we got the award, Dottie made her way towards the small table of awards. Stephen whispered towards me.

"Mari, darling, are you all right?" Stephen asked, looking worried.

"Now I am. It seems Dottie's impressed with us." I stated.

Stephen raised an eyebrow. "Why does it matter what she thinks?"

"Because she is the key to everything in this town. She is key to our kids having a better future, a future they deserve. They need to go to the best schools." I explained.

Stephen's face softened. "Oh honey, it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks. And our kids don't need any fancy schools. They are good kids with hearts of gold. They have us to teach and guide them. As long as they have us, they will be fine. We don't need to kiss up to anyone."

My shoulders slumped. What have I done? I have allowed myself to stray from who I am, all in hopes of helping our kids. But he was right. They do not need some fancy school. They are going to be just fine. Which means I can say what I always wanted to say the moment I got to know her.
