🦋Chapter 28: The Battle of Earth🦋
I let a groan, feeling immense pain surge though my body. I could hear my ears ringing. Blood trickled down from my forehead. I tried to remember everything that happened. The last thing I can recall was that Bruce used the stones in the nano gauntlet, snapping his fingers, and successfully bringing everyone back. I remember Gabe calling me, sounding worried and confused. Then we were hit by something, and an explosion broke out. What the hell happened? I then heard Tony's voice ring out.
"Come on, Mari. Wake up." He urged, sounding worried.
My eyes fluttered open, seeing Tony kneeling beside me, looking relieved. He cracked a smile as he patted my shoulder. "Attagirl."
He then extended a hand out towards me. I took his hand at once, pulling up onto my feet. That's when I noticed destruction all around us. There was rubble and debris that was once part of the facility. Wires stuck out from some of the rubble, letting out sparks as we heard a crackling sound.
"Where is everyone else?" I questioned.
"Somewhere under all this." Tony mentioned as he grabbed Steve's shield that lied not far from us.
We then spotted Steve, lying on the ground not far from us. My heart clenched. Please tell me he's all right. We quickly made our way over towards him. Both of us knelt beside him.
"Come on, buddy. Wake up." Tony urged.
Steve let out a gasp as his eyes fluttered open, looking up at us. I let out a sigh of relief. Thank God he's all right.
"That's my man. You lose this again, I'm keeping it." Tony quipped.
"What happened?" Steve questioned, looking around at the rubble, completely taken back.
"We messed with time. It tends to mess back. You'll see." Tony informed him.
My heart clenched. I definitely do not like the sound of that. We both grabbed Steve's arms, helping him up. Steve let out a grunt as he climbed up to his feet. Tony then handed him the shield before we followed Tony, who seemed to know the way. We trailed behind him through what looked like an endless jungle of debris with wires hanging about with sparks flying about, a couple of fires, and some columns of the facility still standing with part of the roof still hanging on.
At the end of this tunnel, we saw Thor standing leaning against his axe, Stormbreaker. His gaze was focused on something or rather someone. I followed his gaze to see the last person I expected. My stomach churned when I laid my eyes on him. It was Thanos sitting amongst the huge piles of rubbles with small fires across the debris that seemed to go on for miles. It reminded me of Sakaar's giant junkyard.
Thanos was dead, which meant this one was from the past. It made sense as he wore different armor, this time of gold with shoulder pads and armor across his arms and legs, and had a helmet that lied on top of his giant double edged sword. Above him in the sky was a spaceship, which was probably his. What is Thanos doing here? How did he find out about our time machine? About our time heist? About us? A million questions swarmed through my mind, running around faster than the speed of light.
One thing was certain. The goal of Thanos would be the same, which means he would try to get the stones and he would try to undo what we just did. I'm not going to let that happen. I already lost all of them once, I am not going to live through that again. Whatever it takes.
"What's he been doing?" Tony questioned.
"Absolutely nothing." Thor informed us.
"Where are the stones?" I inquired.
