🦋Chapter 17: Pain & Illusions🦋

A/N: Warnings of violence and torture.

My heart dropped. Oh no...not Garrett. And he has Gordon's powers, which is even more daunting. This is not good at all. I immediately looked over at mom and Alexis.

"We have to go." I advised.

With that, I escorted them out the room and down the hallway. I led them down the hallway while mom trailed behind me with Alexis close to her. I need to get them somewhere safe before Nathaniel or Garrett find them. However, as soon as we turned the corner, I saw Nathaniel standing on the other end of the hallway, wearing a black coat over his black clothing and brown boots. He wore a smirk as soon as he saw us.

"I've been looking all over for you." Nathaniel announced.

My heart dropped. Nathaniel found us. I won't let him take my mom. I will not lose her a second time. I raised a hand up towards him, prepared to attack if necessary. Nathaniel raised his fingerless gloved hands.

"Don't shoot." He mocked before lowering his hands, slowly walking towards us. "The two of us in here? You want to bring the whole of River's End down on our heads?"

"Why don't you give me a reason not to blast you across the world?" I retorted.

Nathaniel smirked. "Oh there are plenty of reasons. You really want to risk hurting all your friends? Your family? Your only family you have left?"

I narrowed my eyes at Nathaniel. How I hate him, how I hate all the Malick family and Hydra. I was about to lunge towards him, when my mom stopped me. She gave me a pleading look, which was enough to calm me down. I reluctantly stepped down as she turned to face Nathaniel.

"Where's Kora? What have you done with her?" Mom asked.

"Sorry. Kora couldn't make it. But she sends her best. And don't you look at me like that. You're reunited with your two daughters. Though technically, you should've lost Alexis." Nathaniel revealed.

Mom stared at Nathaniel, completely taken back. Alexis looked at mom before turning towards me in disbelief.

"I died?" Alexis repeated, looking afraid.

Nathaniel let out a chuckle. "Oh it's quite a tale. You were supposed to die the very same Kora was supposed to die."

"You see dear Alexis was worried about Kora and saw that she was about to kill herself with a gun. Alexis tried to stop her, and poor Kora accidentally killed her." Nathaniel continued. "It was truly a devastating event. Then you leave Afterlife, heartbroken, and have a family. You have three more kids, Robbie, Mariana, and Gabe Reyes, but nothing lasts forever."

I watched as both Alexis and mom were devastated and shocked upon hearing his words. Tears began to form in their eyes. I've got to stop this. Nathaniel had no right to say any of this. No doubt he had the Time Stream. It was the only way he could know about the future.

"Stop." I warned.

"Your gift of healing and living long comes to an end as your beloved husband falls sick. It's stage four cancer." Nathaniel proceeded, ignoring me. "You're heartbroken, but you can't take losing him, so instead you take the sickness that was meant for him, which ends up killing you. Now your two sons and your daughter think you were the one who got cancer, unaware of the truth and that you were even an Inhuman."

His words felt like a punch to the stomach. No...that can't be. He's lying. He has to be. I cannot take this anymore. He has to stop.

"Enough!" I shouted.
