🦋Chapter 39: Strange Things 🦋
The Strange Sapphire In The Talent Show
~1960s~
Stephen and I were laying in our bed in our room in the morning. My eyes fluttered open, seeing Stephen still fast asleep. His arms were wrapped around my waist, while my hand was on his chest. Stephen looked so peaceful like this.
I could say here all day in his arms. It was so serene. It was as if everything else outside of our home did not matter. A smile grew on my face as I leaned forth, moving a hand through his dark locks. It wasn't long until Stephen's eyes fluttered open, revealing his bluish and greenish eyes that could spend hours gazing into them, losing myself.
"Good morning, darling." Stephen greeted.
"Good morning, my love." I greeted back.
"You know, I don't think I will ever get used to this. Waking up with you beside me, being the first thing I see, it's a blessing." Stephen mentioned.
My heart warmed at his words. Aww, he was always so romantic and charming. My smile grew at his words. I was also blessed to have him in my life. I'm not sure what I would do without him.
"You're a blessing as well, Stephie. I'm not sure what I would do without you." I said.
"Nor I." Stephen answered. "But we will never have to know."
"I love the sound of that." I confirmed.
"Good." Stephen agreed.
"Good." I said, siding with him.
I then lowered my hand from his hair, earning a whine from Stephen. I furrowed my brows. What did I do? I immediately froze, unsure of what I did. However, it was not what I did, but I did not do or what I stopped doing.
"Don't stop." He advised, giving me a pout.
I cracked a smile. "As you wish, mi amor."
I then kept running my hands through his hair, earning a content sigh from Stephen. It was nice and quiet. No doubt the children were still fast asleep. It was moments like this that I loved. It was not that I got annoyed or fed up of our children, but I missed times where Stephen and I spend alone with one another, just like this.
"I don't want this moment to end." Stephen said.
"Neither do I." I agreed.
However, we heard giggling followed by the sound of footsteps. Oh how I wish we had another few moments. Stephen and I exchanged a sigh, knowing what was about to happen. The door then barged open, revealing Melinda followed by Stephen Jr., Lucky, Skye, Juliana, Alberto, and Luna. Stephen and I exchanged a smile as they barged in. Melinda, Stephen Jr., and Lucky jumped on the bed, landing beside Stephen and me. We let out laughs as Stephen and Stephen Jr. tackled each other. We may not have peace and quiet like we used. However, I would not trade that for anything in the world. My family meant everything to me.

After breakfast, the entire Strange family was in the living room. We were practicing for the town's talent show that would take place in the town's square later in the afternoon. This was our chance to blend in. We would be a band, playing a song altogether. Stephen would be singing and so would I as I played guitar. Stephen Jr. would play the piano along with Stephen. Skye would be a backup singer, Juliana would be on the drums, Luna would play another guitar as she was another backup singer, Alberto would play a saxophone, and Melinda would a tambourine.
We would play the song California Dreamin'. We had been practicing now for quite a while long now. I was happy to say that we were doing quite well. I was excited, unable to wait for this afternoon. We will blow them all away. I got so carried away with our session that I didn't realize what time it was. I glanced down at my watch that rested around my wrist. My eyes widened. Oh no. If I don't go now, I am going to miss the planning committee meeting. And there goes my one chance to impress Dottie. I had heard much of Dottie from across all of Westview. She was the Queen Bee, the one you want to get on your good side if you wanted your family to do well, especially your children. That is why I wore my finest dress, a sapphire blue dress with a red shawl, and a pair of heels. Everything must go perfect.
