🦋Chapter 18: You Need To Keep Going🦋
The door then opened, revealing Mack, Daisy, Daniel, and Alexis with Levi and Lucky trailing behind them. Their eyes widened in horror. I probably looked terrible. I definitely felt cuts all over my face with blood trickling down the side my face with blood on my lip as well, tasting the mellatic tang of blood. I definitely felt like a train had hit me. However, I was glad the torturing was over. But the pain remained, lingering like a persistent leech, slowly draining me. My shoulders were hunched as my body felt weak, exhausted, prepared to give out at any moment.
"Mariana!" They exclaimed.
Daisy quickly quaked the device at the bottom of the force field I was trapped in. The moment Daisy broke the device, I collapsed onto the ground with a loud and painful thud. I grimaced, feeling the pain surge through my body. Alexis stared at her in awe. "That's awesome."
"S-stephen..." I croaked out, trembling. "I saw Luna and Stephen die over and over again by Damian."
Daisy grew furious upon hearing what Damian did to me. Mack and Daisy knelt down beside me, gently placing their hands on my shoulders. Lucky jumped into my lap, standing on his hind legs to lick my cheek. Meanwhile, Levi flew over towards my back, wrapping the edges of its fabric around me as if to give me a hug. I tried to calm down, but the amout of pain Damian put me through was intense, especially the emotional pain.
"It's all right. We got you." Mack assured me.
"They weren't real." Daisy added.
"But it felt real to me. You should've seen it...oh it was awful. Damian created illusions, making me watch as he took turns, killing Stephen and then Luna." I revealed.
Alexis gave me a sympathetic look as she knelt beside me, placing a hand in mine to comfort me. I fell silent as my hands trembled and tears pricked my eyes. As I closed my eyes, I could feel the pain, Damian's sinister smile, and the illusions of Luna and Stephen dying in different ways, each.
"Why would they do this to you?" Daniel asked in shock and disbelief.
"They wanted to shatter my mind, to unleash the Cerulean Reaper." I explained, keeping my eyes closed. "But I'm glad to disappoint them, although I'm not sure I will be of much use to the team anymore..."
"Hey, Mari, look at me." Daisy advised.
Reluctantly, I cracked my eyes open to see Daisy giving me a gentle look. She then continued on. "You aren't useless."
"Exactly, you aren't useless. Far from it. You are one of the strongest people we know." Mack commented, chiming in. "You have been through hell and back."
"You are one badass woman, Mariana. I know this seems like the end, Mariana. But you have to keep fighting, keep going." Daisy urged. "You even fought and held your own against a demon and powerful aliens like Thor's sister."
Daniel stared at me in utter shock. "Say...what?"
"Now that's badass." Alexis corrected, looking at me with a grin.
"Language." Daniel scolded.
"What? But she said it." Alexis protested in disbelief.
"I don't care. You're still a kid." Daniel reprimanded.
Alexis muttered under her breath as she crossed her arms. She reminded me so much of myself. I let out a chuckle, earning a smile from Mack and Daisy.
"The point is that this life isn't an easy one. We sign up to lose friends, limbs, your life, or your mind." Daisy reminded me. "All in the protection of humanity."
