🦋Chapter 27: The Blip🦋
I stared at her, completely stunned by her words. Okay, that wasn't the response I was expecting. I remained speechless unable to say a word. I thought that would be an easy mission, one where I would see Stephen again. However, nothing ever goes as planned, especially in this job.
"Please, please!" Bruce pleaded.
"I'm sorry. I can't help you both." She denied, walking away from us. "If I give up the Time Stone to help your reality, I'm dooming my own."
"With all due respect, I'm not sure the science really supports that." Bruce retorted.
I flew after her, trying to adjust to this new arrangement. I felt much lighter, able to reach her faster than when I walked. Ooh this felt awesome. I let out a laugh as I soared up into the air before floating down towards the Ancient One.
Meanwhile Bruce trailed behind me, trying to keep up. Once we caught up to her, she stopped walking. With a wave of her hand, a golden light appeared, separating Bruce and me from her. The six infinity stones appeared around the golden light.
"The Infinity Stones create what you experience as the flow of time." The Ancient One explained.
She then removed the Time Stone from the golden light, and we watched as a black branch was created, veering off from the gold light. My heart clenched. That didn't look too good.
"Remove one of the stones, and that flow splits. Now this may benefit your reality. But my new one, not so much. In this new branched reality, without our chief weapon against the forces of darkness, our world will be overrun. Millions will suffer." She warned. "So, tell me, doctor, can your science prevent all that?"
Bruce and I exchanged a look. This was definitely grim, but we can avoid this. If this we succeed, we can get more Pym Particles from Hank Pym himself, and we can return, giving the Ancient One the Time Stone back at the exactly moment she gave it to us.
"No. But we can erase it." Bruce mentioned.
"Because once we're done with the stones, we can return each one into its own timeline at the moment it was taken." I explained.
I then grabbed the hologram version of the time stone, putting it back in its place. As soon as the stone was back in its place, the branch disappeared.
"So, chronologically, in that reality....it never left." Bruce clarified.
The Ancient One turned her back towards us, looking hesitant. She then made her way towards the edge of the roof. Bruce and I quickly followed her. We aren't giving up, we can't. Not when we are so close.
"Yes, but you're leaving out the most important part. In order to return the stones, you have to survive." The Ancient One pointed out.
"We will. I will. I promise." Bruce assured her.
"We promise." I confirmed.
"I can't risk this reality on a promise. It's the duty of the Sorcerer Supreme to protect the Time Stone." She informed us.
Stephen said that as well, but then he gave the stone away right before Thanos was about to kill Tony and me. I don't understand it. Why give it away? Bruce then blurted out. "Then why the hell did Strange give it away?"
This caught her attention as her face fell. She immediately responded. "What did you say?"
"Strange gave the stone to Thanos." I elaborated.
"He gave it to Thanos. Willingly?" The Ancient One questioned, looking baffled.
"Yes." Bruce and I confirmed.
