Dead Inside

Heizou's POV

After a while, we decided to finish up the work. I sighed.

'W-wait! (Y/n)!' I began as she was leaving the office

She raised a brow turning to me

'What?' she asked, annoyed

I should invite her for a drink or something right now, right? So we can, I guess...catch up? I mean, we are gonna be working together for a while now...right?

'What is it, Heizou?' she asked, crossing her arms. 'It's getting late. I'm meeting up with some friends, so whatever it is, make it quick.'

'O-oh...' I said, 'Never mind.'

She blinked in confusion.

'Bye I guess.'

The mood seemed awkward, so I decided to end it with a joke.

'Bye, Watson!' I taunted

She glared at me

'I am not your Watson!' she yelled, annoyed. 'Urgh, I can't stand you!'

She stomped outside grumpily.

(Y/n)'s POV

After what felt like forever, I was free to go home. I literally hate everything right now. I now have to spend the rest of my career with the worst person in existence. I trudged to a restaurant where my friends wanted to celebrate my new job. Honestly, there is nothing to celebrate about that. Once I entered the restaurant, I saw my best friend, Kazuha. He waved over to me, smiling.

'Hey (n/n)! Congrats on the n-' he stopped his sentence when he got a clear look at my face. 'What's wrong? Was it, not everything you hoped for?'

I sat next to him tiredly.

'No, it was amazing. It's just now I have to work with a certain co-worker whose head I want to bash in with a club.'

He sighed

'That's pretty violent for a first meeting (n/n). What did they do that pissed you off that much?' he asked, chuckling a bit.

'I don't know, exist.' I said with distaste

'The last time you were this pissed was when you were competing with Hei-'

'DON'T! Don't say his name. He'll magically appear here too!'

'Too?'

'He was at work today, and to make things worse! Captain Kamisato thought it was a great idea to partner us up!'

Kazuha nodded

'Oh. Yikes, that must have been rough.' he said, giving me a sympathetic look.

'And, you know how much of an asshole he is! How damn annoying and cheeky and urgh!' I ranted, 'I just got this new job! I-it's everything I've ever dreamt of since I was a kid, but now with him in it...everything's ruined.'

'Hey, c'mon (n/n), don't let him ruin this for you. You got here with your hard work and determination! Sure, you had to go through some challenges, but you pressed on, right? Treat Heizou like he's just another obstacle that you need to overcome.' he said, smiling.

I chuckled

'You sound like Tomo.' I said with a small smile, 'I miss him...'

We sat in silence for a few moments. Tomo was the reason I wanted to be a detective. He was supportive and introduced me to the whole field in the first place. He used to call me the feistiest girl he had ever met. He was like a big brother to Kazuha and me while we were growing up. But one day...he simply disappeared. There was no trace of him anywhere. The police wrote it off as a missing and presumed dead case. I know in my heart that he isn't dead. I know he's still alive somewhere, and I'm going to find him!

Kazuha could pick on my dulled mood.

'H-Hey! Y'know what else this place is known for!? It has the best (f/f)( favorite food) in town! You have to try it! I know you'll love it!'

I smiled. Kazuha was the best friend a girl could ask for. He was polite, a gentleman, and he always knew how to make me feel better. No matter how dull my mood is, he knows how to make me smile.

'Also, you should order it before Itto comes and stuffs his face with it, right?' he said with a smirk.

'True true!' I said, 'I don't want him to eat all of that on his own!'

Kazuha chuckled

'Y'know the stars must be jealous...Your smile is so bright that it outshines them all.' he said. 'You should smile more (n/n). It suits you.'

I blushed, choking on my food. His eyes widened as he patted my back to help me stop choking. I flicked his forehead.

'C'mon Kazu, don't be all poetic and sweet while I'm eating.'

'Ow! So harsh (n/n)~' he said dramatically.

'Stop being dramatic,' I said giggling

'Hehe, Sorry.'

We chuckled together, and then we were interrupted by a loud, boisterous voice. A.K.A Arataki Itto!

'HEY, GUYS!' he yelled loudly.

'Itto!' Gorou reprimanded his boyfriend. 'Stop yelling in public! It's rude.'

'Sorry.' he said, rubbing the back of his neck.

'Hi, guys!' Kokomi said waving

We waved back

Kazuha's POV

I waved as more of our friends arrived. Itto was about to take some of (Y/n)'s food when she stopped him.

'Touch the food and die.' she said plainly

'Oh c'mon (n/n), lemme have just a bit!'

'Itto do you really wanna die?' she asked with her eyebrow raised

'But (Y/n)!'

'C'mon, Itto let her have this.' I said, 'Her first day was kinda rough.'

'Oh no! That's a shame. What happened?' Kokomi asked

'She was partnered up with...Heizou.' I whispered

(Y/n) stabbed her food very harshly the moment I mentioned his name. She aggressively ate. That was (Y/n) for you. You can tell her mood by the way she eats. When she's happy, she is bubbly and enjoys her food, but when she's mad, she, well...takes it out on her food like she did just now.

'Heizou? Was he the guy you were dating back when we were in school?' Itto asked, and all of us visibly cringed. Well, rest in peace, Itto.

'Dated? What the ac- I can't believe this! Itto you actually think I would date that asshole? Really?' (Y/n) yelled, dropping her fork. 'Were you even paying attention back then? We were rivals! The complete opposite of whatever lovey dovey stuff couples are supposed to do!'

I sighed. Now she's going to go on a rant for sure.

'But today, I am not gonna waste my breath on him! I need to be calm.' she said. 'I need to save my energy to tolerate him for another day.'
