Kazuha's POV

(Y/n) and I decided to have some lunch together like old times. I could tell that she just wanted to distract herself from all that had happened, and I didn't mind. I couldn't go to work for a few days, so a chance to catch up with my best friend? Don't mind if I do. (Y/n) was back to her old self, at least...as best as she could.

'Kazu hear me out, ok...if your food falls on the floor for less than five seconds, you can still eat it! The five-second rule is not a myth!'

'Or you're too lazy or broke to buy more food.' I countered as a joke

'I am not broke or lazy!'

'Never said you were.' I said with a smirk while eating

'You did not just make me expose myself!'

'I indeed did just that (N/n).'

'That was foul, Kaedehara Kazuha!'

'Oh no, not the full name!' I said dramatically

'I hate you.' she said, rolling her eyes

'I love you too~.'

We both laughed a bit. We'd decided to not talk about Tomo or the case. We just needed to detox from this whole situation. Just hang out like old times. I missed (Y/n)'s witty banter and her boisterous comments.

'It's been so long since we've just sat down and not thought about stuff.' she said, playing around with her food.

'Yeah, it sure has been. Feels nice, though, right?'

'I never meant to lie earlier.' she said softly.

'(N/n) There's nothing to apologize for...you were trying to protect me. I was just too hard headed to hear you out.' I said, giving her a sympathetic smile. 'Both of us fucked up that night. Communication is key, just like...' 

My voice trailed off, but both of us could tell who I was talking about. The silence was interrupted when my phone rang. I looked at (Y/n).

'It's ok...go on, answer it.'

I nodded and picked up the phone.

'Hello?'

"Is this Kaedehara Kazuha speaking?"

'Um, yes, this is he...can I help you?'

"My name is Captain Kamisato Ayato. I was calling you in regards to your brother."

I put the phone on speaker for both (Y/n) and me to hear. She looked at me in confusion the moment she heard her boss's voice.

'Why's he calling you?' she mouthed

'I don't know...something regarding Tomo.' I mouthed back and then went back to talking to him. 'Yes, what about my brother?'

"Well, your brother is in no condition to stay in a jail cell, so we were contacting you since you were the next of kin. We were wondering if you would let him stay with you."

(Y/n) and I simultaneously froze up.

'Isn't he a criminal?' I tried saying

"We know he is but don't worry, sir. We'll give you some time to come up with your decision."

Once he cut, the call (Y/n) spoke up.

'There is no way in hell I'm letting him stay with you, Kazu.' she said seriously.

'(N/n) I have to. You heard what your boss said.'

'Fuck what my boss says. He hurt you, Kazu! There is no way in hell I'm letting him near you without my watch.'

'(N/n) he doesn't have a place to go. Kamisato did say he is medically challenged to an extent right now.'

'I'll let him stay with you on one condition.' she said, looking into my eyes. 'I'm staying with you and keeping an eye on him as long as I can.'

'What-'

'You heard me.'

I sighed

'Fine.'

(Y/n)'s POV

I didn't want Kazu to be alone with Tomo. I don't trust Tomo. I sighed as I picked up Tomo from his hospital room. Tomo looked at me in surprise, and he also looked upset.

'C'mon Tomo.' I said, handcuffing him

'(N/n) Please just listen to me.' he begged

'Why should I listen to you?' I asked, 'For all I know, you can just decide to go back to your old self and hurt me or Kazuha.'

'I never meant to hurt you!' he yelled.

'Oh really? Why should I believe your empty promises? Even if you're back to the Tomo from my childhood, how do I know that you'll go back to the criminal you are? You promised to stay and protect me, but you disappeared and became this.'

'You're being unfair (N/n). You refuse to hear my side of this story!' he said sternly. 'You're being real stubborn! More than usual!'

'Oh really? You know I never believed you were dead! All of my hope was destroyed because you helped kidnap a girl. I was in denial that you were good, but I was an idiot! Heizou told me you'd changed, but I didn't listen. You were ready to kill me! You shot your own brother! How do I know you won't kill me? How do I know you're not going to hurt me or the people I love?'

'I-I'm sorry about everything that happened, but I really don't remember anything.'

'Why did you leave us, Tomo? You left us broken. Kazu was...he was so hurt. I took care of him. I made sure he was ok.' I asked with my voice softening. 'He was broken and...and he thought you left because of him. But I-I know you left because of me.'

His eyes widened in surprise. I stared at the road trying to keep myself in one piece.

'How did you-'

'Heizou found your logs...I know you left because you wanted to get me the internship as my birthday present. It was my fault that you left. It's my fault you and Kazu got hurt.'

I felt my eyes well up, and a lump formed in my throat. I squeezed the steering wheel. I violently wiped my eyes. I won't cry. I'm fine. I'm stronger than my emotions. My therapist's words echo in my ears.

"(Y/n) you can't avoid your emotions forever...you will have to face Tomodachi again at a point."

Once I got out of the car with Tomo, he hugged me, and I felt myself freeze up.

'(N/n) Please don't blame yourself.' he whispered. 'You never knew anything about Pandora.'

I felt myself melt into the hug.

'But if that stupid internship weren't there, you wouldn't have left.' I said, my voice wavering, 'If you didn't care about my birthday, you wouldn't get hurt.'

'It was never your fault (N/n). I was the one who joined Pandora. You're like my little sister (N/n)...I would've done anything for you anyway. Remember this (Y/n) you never knew anything about Pandora...I joined Pandora. Ok, you never did anything.' he whispered, kissing the top of my head. 'I'm sorry ok. Please don't blame yourself.'
