Just For Safety's Sake

Heizou's POV

'So tell us everything you remember.'

'W-Well, my family never had enough money, but we scraped by. Dad passed away soon enough b-because of cancer. Mom didn't take it well and turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism and stopped going to work. Our minimal money was gone because she spent it all on alcohol. Our rent was due too, and we barely had enough, so I started doing all kinds of odd jobs...even the humiliating ones.' Regina said, 'Then mom overdosed on some drugs, and she was rushed to the hospital. The bills were outrageous. Her liver was severely damaged, and she was diagnosed with advanced alcoholic cirrhosis. The only cure was a liver transplant...and those cost like 600,000 or more, mora! I could never make that much money so soon. Then...'

Regina let out a shaky breath. Everything she was describing sounded similar to Tomo's situation. The financial issues, the loss of family. So this seems to be Dottore's plan of getting victims. Financially challenged and desperate people.

'Then what happened.' (Y/n) asked calmly, holding Regina's hand gingerly

'Then this man showed up...he offered me a job in Pandora. That was the biggest mistake I ever made.'

'Can you tell us more about Pandora?' I asked gently, 'What did they make you do?'

Regina shivered. Her eyes grew cold and lifeless.

'A man came up to me and promised me big things. Money...' she let out a humorless laugh 'The bane of our existence, isn't it? It's like a parasite that gets to you. It controls you. Leads you to do terrible things. The man promised me enough money to help my mom and save my home. The only thing was that the job required me to become an assassin for them. Killing innocent people who wanted to speak up about Calypso. To make things right.'

'This man who came to you...can you describe him?'

'W-Well, he wasn't mainstream but kind of like a deputy of sorts. He had sandy blonde hair, violet eyes, and a scar over his nose.'

(Y/n)'s eyes darkened as Regina described Tomo. She looked pained, but she remained professional. She nodded and didn't burst. I respect that. I know this must be really hard since, well...Tomo was like her big brother, after all. I don't know how I'd react if I found out my sister Hiroko was a criminal.

'Do you know his name?'

'His name was T-'

Her voice was immediately interrupted by a sharp buzz from her metallic collar. She screamed as I noticed her body start shaking and her mouth began frothing.

Dottore's POV

I sighed. How disappointing...Regina failed twice. She had so much potential. Her lab results were getting better as well.

'Tomodachi...you know what you have to do.' I said calmly

'B-But sir; this is the sev-' he began

I raised my hand harshly.

'You do know that your collar also contains Cyanide, right? With one click of my remote, you will join Regina...a pathetic heap of trash on the floor. Your body waiting to be incinerated.'

He froze, and his hand went up to his collar. Tomo was my most successful asset. He was complacent and well behaved. The only problem is that the stupid medicine is too weak to last for long.

'Do you know what happens if you if Cyanide enters your bloodstream? It halts cellular respiration by blocking the reduction of oxygen to water. Instantly suffocating you.' I said calmly, 'So be a good boy and listen to me.'

'Y-Yes, sir.' he responded.

'Those two...kill them.' I said, staring at the two detectives who had broke in.

Tomo's POV

I froze, staring at the girl. I...I can't kill her. I can't hurt her. I don't know why, but I can't kill her. The boy, sure, I don't care about him but the girl...I can't. I slowly raised my hand to my collar. Cyanide waiting in it...ready to kill at any time.

'What are you waiting for, boy? GO!' the doctor yelled

'Y-Yes, sir.'

I quickly exited the room and looked at one of the guards nearby. I can't kill them, but they can.

'The boy and girl...find them.' I said darkly, 'Kill them. Dispose of their bodies in the incinerator.'

'Yes, sir!'

(Y/n)'s POV

Regina froze up and started shaking violently. She grabbed at her chest, wheezing until her mouth started frothing. Her breath was quick as she wheezed, begging for air. After a few seconds, she lay still. My hand went to check for her pulse...she was dead. Her collar was off, and I noticed a sort of syringe in it.  She was dead. My hands shook a bit. I hated myself. I promised she wouldn't get hurt, but now she lay dead in my arms.

'Cyanide.' I said when I smelt a bitter almond smell in the air. 'Clearly, we're onto something, and they wanted to silence her before we knew too much.'

Heizou nodded when we heard the voice of many guards.

'HEY, YOU TWO! STOP RIGHT THERE!' the leader of the group screamed

I quickly grabbed Regina's collar as Heizou took my hand and started running. The guards chased after us. I looked back at Regina's body one last time. They were resilient as fuck. I'll give them that. Regina refused to leave my mind. The people in Pandora never meant any harm. They were all just good people...at least some of them were. What Tomo's become...I-I'd never expect that. I sighed as we ran into the nearest place we could find...a bar. Why is this city filled with more bars than police stations!? I thought the men wouldn't come into the bar, but they did. There were no hiding spots, so I had one last resort.

'Heizou, kiss me!' I said bluntly, looking into his eyes

'W-what!?' he said in shock, looking into my eyes as he caught his breath

'I said shut up and kiss me!' I urged again, feeling impatient and anxious

We were going to be here forever if he kept asking. It's now or never (Y/n)!

'W-whoa Princess, what do you mph?!' he began when I grabbed his face and kissed him.

At first, he was surprised. But then he gave in to the kiss eventually. He slowly dominated the kiss, and then when we broke apart, we were huffing for air.

'Whoa...' he began

I blushed. I looked around to see the men were gone.

'Let's go.' I said, grabbing his hand and leaving

This was all for safety's sake, right? It's not anything else. Just for safety's sake. Then why is my heart beating so fast? I can't be falling in love, right? It's just the adrenaline...nothing else...right?
