Upon realizing I was in a group chat that I don't recall ever being in, I grabbed my phone, unlocking it and going to my messages, but as soon as I read the texts, everything clicked in my head.
"Davis and Cher made a group chat for us," I said.
Karter pulled her phone from her pocket, "Oh, I gotta see this," she said, unlocking her phone.
Cher the heir: I CAN'T BELIEVE U WENT OUT ON THE WATER WITHOUT ME
Cher the heir: AND YOU DROVE THE BOAT WITHOUT ME???
Cher the heir: SLOAN WE HAVE BEEF NOW
Davis: Nah you guys are fake. Where was the invite???I slowly looked over at Karter, "How do they know we're out on the water—" I furrowed my brows deeper before asking, "—wait how do they even know I drove the boat?"
Karter pursed her lips slightly, indicating that she had done something she wasn't supposed to, "I might've posted it on Instagram," she said, smiling cheekily.
My eyes widened slightly, "Karter!" I exclaimed, looking back down at my phone as I quickly navigated to the Instagram app.
It didn't take long to see what she did—actually, the post came up immediately.
@KarterGreyson: Please send help...
I looked up at Karter with wide eyes, "Karter I can't even—"
"We have to post each other eventually," she cut me short in a matter-of-fact tone as she shrugged to herself.
I pinched the bridge of my nose, sighing slightly, "But posting each other is not something that's necessary."
Karter laughed slightly as my eyes fluttered back open, "You're forgetting it's 2023, babe—it would be weird if we didn't," she said, using the mocking pet name. "Besides what's the big deal?" she asked, raising a challenging brow.
I knew exactly what the big deal was—or who, but I would never say that out loud.
I also found myself questioning why I even care anymore about what Tate sees or thinks, even if it's all fake—it's really not, at least to the student body of which she is technically a part of.
It's not like I'm rubbing it in her face—it's her fault if she chooses to go view mine or Karter's page.
Right?
I'm sure Cher would agree... Actually, Cher's the one who told me to stop holding out—to stop caring what Tate thinks.
I let out a sigh, "Yeah, I guess you're right."
Karter blinked a few times, "Wait, can you say that again? I need to get my phone back out."
I rolled my eyes as she slid her phone out of her pocket, "You're actually annoying."
"Mhm, just say it again and look into the camera when you do it," Karter said, holding her phone up as she recorded.
I narrowed my eyes, "You have five seconds until I throw your phone into the water."
