You Made It

After exiting the SUV and entering the tall historical building, I walked down the long hallway that eventually led to a lobby.

From the tall embroidered ceilings to the shiny marble floors and columns—the venue was beyond what I expected.

Then again, Montrose was considered to be the school for the wealthy.

I looked over to the videos on display—each digital screen setup behind a gold frame hung on the wall. The display was entirely creative.

I couldn't help the urge that burned in me—walking over to mine and Karter's project.

The quick clips were beautiful—it seemed like in each clip one of us was inevitably smiling or focused on a task at hand.

Everything was laid out like one giant timeline—all of Karter's soccer games, the parties we attended, major holidays that I managed to spend with her family.

I really missed them. I missed Kloan too.

God, knows how big he's gotten while I've been submerged into some weird depressive state.

I pursed my lips when tears coated my eyes, realizing that I didn't want a life without Karter, even if it meant making some sacrifices on my part, which included forgiving her.

I could only hope that she and Violet were only a fling and nothing serious.

I don't think I could handle the idea of officially losing her.

Then again, she still has been sending good morning and good night texts, so maybe I haven't lost her.

Or maybe that was just because she felt bad for what she did, pitying me for how badly it hurt me.

"You made it."

Almost automatically I turned around, feeling my heart leap in my chest.

However, it quickly sunk back down when I saw Cher standing there, smiling brightly at me.

"Don't look so disappointed now," she said, narrowing her eyes as she walked over to me.

I blinked a few times, realizing I wasn't bothering to hide my disappointment over the fact that it was Cher standing here with me rather than Karter.

I forced a smile, "Sorry I just..." I trailed off, not really wanting to full out say that I was hoping it was Karter rather than her.

"Expecting a certain someone?" Cher said, raising a brow, however, when her dark eyes glanced down to my not-so-bare finger, her head tilted, "Perhaps someone whose name starts with a K?"

I rolled my eyes, "Way to be obvious," I joked.

Cher only shrugged, "You're the one being obvious—standing by her display and wearing the ring she gifted you," she pointed out, smiling at me knowingly. "Is it possible that my moms are getting back together?"

I laughed, finding Cher completely amusing, "Your mom's?"

"Our moms," another voice interjected, correcting Cher.

My dark eyes darted over to Davis, who was walking toward us in a black tux with his dark hair gelled back. He had a carefree smile on his face as he stopped beside Cher, slinging his arm around her shoulder.

"I'm glad to see you came, Sloany," Davis said, playfully nudging my shoulder with his hand.

I rolled my eyes playfully, "It wouldn't be prom if I didn't show up," I joked.

Davis only laughed, "Facts, it also wouldn't be prom without a little vodka," he said, revealing his flask from his suit pocket.

Cher's lips parted, playfully slapping Davis's shoulder, "Davison Porter!"
