After staying in the hospital overnight for observation, I was cleared the next morning, heading over to Karter's house instead of going home or to school.
Even if I felt like I was overstepping, Nancy and Nina insisted that I come over, knowing that my mom had packed her things and left due to my own wishes.
Karter was... oddly attentive.
Her mom's were going to stay home to watch over me, but Karter insisted that she had it all handled.
And she actually did.
She refilled my water numerous times, made sure I ate all three meals, held me along with Kloan who somehow snuggled up to us both even though he had a bed, and most importantly, she kept me entertained.
If it wasn't our usual playful banter, then it was a new movie or a multiplayer game on our phones.
I had never been taken care of to these lengths.
It honestly made time go by really fast—soon Nancy and Nina were home making Pasta and preparing a chef's salad while Karter and I sat at the kitchen island, talking to them about their day before sitting down for dinner.
"I definitely won the last game of Mario Karts," Karter insisted, taking the last bite of her salad as we all sat around the table, positioned by the window.
I narrowed my eyes, sticking my fork in the rigatoni, "I literally have a screenshot of the game telling me I won."
"Only because you cheated," Karter mumbled, but I easily heard it.
"Nuh-uh," I said, chewing on my pasta.
Karter slid her empty salad bowl away, "Uh-huh."
"Nuh-uh," I argued back.
Karter raised a challenging brow, "Uh-huh."
I narrowed my eyes, "Nuh—"
"How about we all be winners?" Nina cut us off, her blue eyes gazing between us.
"No," Both Karter and I said in sync.
Nancy shrugged, "I guess there's only one way to settle this."
Nina narrowed her light eyes, "Whatever you're about to suggest doesn't sound good."
Nancy smiled vindictively, "Rematch. Winner takes all."
My dark eyes shot over to Karter who was already grabbing her phone from her pocket, but was quickly halted when Nina said—
"What are you doing? We're taking this into the living room."
My brows raised in challenge at Karter, "Yeah, Karty."
Karter rolled her eyes as she slid out of the booth, "Please don't ever call me that again."
I laughed, sliding out behind her, "You know you like it, babe," I said, following her to the living room.
"I don't, babe," she mocked, turning the TV and console on.
Nancy walked into the living room with Nina trailing behind her, "You guys have two witnesses, so there is absolutely no way to spin the winner's credibility."
I hummed, "Hear that, Karty?"
Karter threw one of the game controllers to me, "Yeah, now I can win peacefully."
I narrowed my eyes at her as she pulled the game up, preparing a race for us.
"This was either a really good idea or a really bad one," Nina said, shaking her head to herself as the game counted down.
