I Shared My Chips!

I was a complete nervous wreck, rambling on to Cher and Davis as I paced back and forth.

Imagining even the idea of Karter showing up was enough to make me want to throw up all those stupid cool ranch Doritos I ate with Davis.

"Lo, chill—this is what you wanted," Cher reminded me.

Yeah, this was what I wanted, but it didn't change how nervous I felt. I wish it would've been more of a surprise so I didn't have to suffer while waiting for her to show up.

I had so much to say to her, and now it just felt like my brain turned into complete mush—my body was now coated in an anxious heat and my heart feels like it was beating a thousand miles per second.

"I need a shot," I declared, deciding that I actually couldn't deal with this. I might go insane if I try.

As I walked back toward the house, squeezing through groups of people, Cher called out, "Wait! Are you sure you need any more—"

"I'm positive," I cut her short, even if I wasn't quite sure if I was positive.

The high from the dab pen only seemed to seep in deeper, however, since I hadn't drank that much, I didn't feel the slightest bit of drunk.

Then again, being high felt much more intense—but it still didn't change my nervousness, instead it seemed to enhance it. I was imagining scenarios of what would happen when Karter got here... what I would say or do.

I needed some sort of liquid courage right now.

As I made it to the kitchen, a few people were luckily already lining up shots—dealing me and Cher into the round of shots.

"Don't forget me," Davis called, coming to stand beside us as a bunch of students patted him on the back.

Cher shook her head as everyone lifted their glasses up, "Guess there's no going back now," she said as we clinked our glasses with everyone and threw the burning liquid back.

Davis scrunched up his nose, but as soon as the burning subsided, he said, "I'm not taking the fall for this when Karter gets here."

I shrugged, "It's fine, I will."

Cher chuckled, "Yeah, okay."

I poured myself a couple more shots, throwing back the Svedka until I felt ready enough to talk to Karter.

"Lo, I'm seriously about to cut you off," Cher declared as I made a line of shots, planning to take the line up all at once.

Davis shook his head, "Five shots at once is not for the weak, Sloany."

Cher went to take the shots away, but when a sudden crowd formed around us and began cheering me on, I felt a sudden urge to take the shots.

My ego wouldn't let me pass down the challenge in front of a crowd, and clearly, neither did Cher's given that she decided to retract her hand—deciding against being a party pooper.

"I don't want to hear it when you have the world's worst hangover tomorrow," Cher determined, shrugging as she leaned back into Davis.

I knew I'd probably regret doing this tomorrow, but I'm living for today—it's prom night and Karter was about to show up, and I was still not calm enough to finally see her after so long.

With that in mind, I leaned down, grabbing the first shot glass, which caused the crowd's cheers to grow louder—clapping and chanting with a few whistles present.

I threw the shot back, setting it down, and picking up another as I ignored the burning in my chest.

I threw the second one back, setting it down, and picking up the other one with a smile as the crowd roared even louder, growing with more people who began recording.
