We've Officially Graduated, Babe

"Davis your tassel is on the wrong side," Cher said, her voice deflated as she corrected his tassel.

I laughed as I leaned into Karter, "I can't believe we're graduating," I said, still processing that we were all about to graduate.

I seriously did not expect my senior year to go this way—dating Karter Greyson, along with my best friend who's dating her best friend.

It's safe to say, that none of us probably expected this, but it turned out to be what we needed most.

"Next time I see you guys, I'll be a high school graduate," Davis said, wiggling his brows as Cher retracted her hand from his corrected graduation cap.

Karter rolled her eyes playfully, "Leave it to you to make a corny joke."

Cher laughed, "Without a doubt," she said, nudging him slightly.

I smiled, feeling such an overwhelming happiness, but at the same time, I felt sad. A chapter was closing, and while I was excited for a new one—I think I'll actually miss this school and all the memories we made in it.

It sucks that Karter and I only met this year—but I'm still entirely grateful that we get to go off to Harvard together.

Now we'll have plenty of time to make even more memories—without Violet or Calista butting into our business or scheming to do the most. Luckily, they had both chosen Stanford, which was across the country.

Tate's heading back over to Australia to train for the next surfing competition, and Cooper is going with her.

Surprisingly, Cooper and I managed to have a talk a couple of nights ago. He felt terrible for how Tate had treated me, but I already knew this—it's the main reason why he kept in contact with me when he was in Australia.

Sad to say it, but Cooper and I won't ever be as close as we were, and we both came to that conclusion. It made zero sense to hold one another to that expectation when we were both going off into different chapters of our lives. Honestly, we had slowly been doing that this past year—going into different chapters.

It just sucks because Cooper is a good guy, and he was a great friend even when it was hard to be.

"Seniors please get in your line up!" the intercom in the gymnasium called out.

I looked over to Karter, whose eyes already seemed to be on me, "See you on the other side?" I said.

Karter smiled slightly, "Oh, for sure, babe," she said, leaning down to press a fleeting kiss to my lips.

I hummed as she pulled away, turning to Cher and Davis who were exchanging their own words.

"Ready guys?" I said, smiling brightly as Cher and Davis pulled away from a brief kiss.

Cher smiled, "Oh I was ready the day I stepped into this school."

Davis laughed, "Facts," he said, adjusting his navy robe slightly as we all began walking with the crowd of students toward our designated spots.

Soon, Graduation was in session, walking out of the gymnasium onto Montrose's large football field with family members of all sorts seated in the stadium above.

Of course, there were the excruciating long introductions and cliche speeches before they began calling names—and at this rate, I sincerely thought I was going to melt under the hot sun.

As Karter's name was called, I couldn't help but cheer as loud as possible with the crowd, watching as she collected her diploma and walked back to her seat.
