I took in the long velvet black dress that clung to my body, how the slit that cut all the way up to my thigh, illuminated my tan leg. The straps of the dress rested off of my shoulders which illuminated my neck and collarbone that were completely bare.

My dark hair was down and parted with dramatic curls while my face was coated in neutral, yet sharp makeup as I preferred.

I shifted my weight between the uncomfortable black heels, pursing my lips that were coated in a nude lip gloss.

None of this felt right.

And I know I shouldn't be thinking about Karter and Violet but I am.

Cher emerged from her bathroom, wearing a strapless emerald green dress that managed to cling to her body almost perfectly—her dark hair was pulled up into a bun and her face was covered in a neutral amount of makeup as well.

I furrowed my brows when Cher frowned.

"What is it?" I asked, looking back at myself in the mirror self-consciously.

Cher shook her head, "Nothing you look amazing—you just need accessories," she pointed out, which earned a small nod from me. "Like a necklace, of course, some earrings, a bracelet, and possibly a ring or two," she said, walking over to her jewelry cabinet.

I glanced down to my right hand, frowning at how bare my finger was.

"Here," Cher said, draping a gold jeweled necklace around my neck.

I couldn't help but widen my eyes at the black jewels outlined in shiny gold, and how the bracelet and earrings she provided all seemed to match.

Before she could hand me the correlating ring I couldn't help but say, "No, I think this will work just perfectly."

Cher tilted her head slightly before nodding to herself.

As she walked back to her jewelry cabinet to place the ring back where it belonged, I couldn't help but question myself. Why didn't I take the ring?

"Ready?" Cher asked as she walked back over to me.

I nodded, breathing out a small breath of air, "Yeah, I think so."

Cher smiled, displaying her shiny white teeth as she lead me out of her room, but I couldn't stop myself from reaching out to her, halting her steps completely.

"Thank you, Cher—for everything. I seriously don't know what I would do without you," I said, squeezing her hand in a reassuring manner.

Cher's smile only grew, "I don't know what you'd do either," she joked, which easily made me roll my eyes.

"And there goes the sentimental moment," I joked, shaking my head to myself with a small laugh.

Soon, we were downstairs, allowing Cher's parents and my mom to take pictures of us. The moment felt surreal, possibly because I felt a genuine moment of happiness in what felt like a while. It also could've been the fact that my mom was present for once.

After taking pictures and making TikToks we headed to a dinner reservation made by Cher's parents. The food was exquisite as always, but even I knew it wouldn't compare to the food Karter and I had on the night of Valentine's Day.

I smiled at the memory, thinking back to us sitting on the beach in complete peace—or what could be considered peace, given that Karter was always up to her usual antics.

"Karter stop flicking sand at me," I huffed out.

Karter only snickered to herself, shaking her head as she said, "What are you talking about?"
