"No because Davis literally rented out the entire restaurant and had the trained chef teach us how to cook," Cher said as I leaned against the bathroom sink of the Montrose girl's bathroom.

I smiled slightly, "That's so cute—at least you know a few things about cooking now."

Cher shrugged, "At least I won't have another fire incident from boiling water."

I laughed, shaking my head as I reflected back to when Cher almost burnt the house down—quite literally from only boiling water.

"Karter's gesture was insanely romantic," Cher pointed out, wiggling her brows at me playfully. "Have you guys said I love you yet?"

I practically joked on my own saliva—coughing slightly before I cleared my throat, "No-no besides it's too early."

Cher crossed her arms over her chest, "Too early? You guys have been dating since the beginning of the school year, and it's now February."

Not technically since the beginning of the school year...

"It's a big step," I said, knowing it was a big step, but that it was also all dependent on a bet we made.

Cher laughed, "Not for people who seem to be in love," she pointed out, easily making my stomach crawl with so many butterflies, I thought I was going to throw up. Do we—do I love her? Am I in love with her? "She got you a ring, Lo... Pretty clear where her feelings lie."

I blinked a few times, trying to say something in defiance but only coming up short.

I can't speak on something I don't exactly know. Where do her feelings lie?

The ring wasn't that big of a deal. Just a gesture.

Cher sighed, "Well, I'm headed back to class."

I nodded, deciding I'll stay in the bathroom for a moment longer to collect my thoughts. "I'll see you at lunch."

Cher nodded, turning on her heel and walking out of the school bathroom.

I stayed there a moment, turning to face the mirror as I observed myself for a moment.

What happens if I do love Karter? Certainly that complicates a few things?

I shook my head to myself, no-no I can't lose this bet—I want a full ride to Harvard. I want to give my mom a reason to stop working so much.

"You seem deep in thought," a voice called from behind me.

I turned around, meeting Tate's blue eyes.

Almost automatically, I rolled my eyes, "Congratulations, you have eyes," I retorted sarcastically.

Tate only shook her head, smiling slightly, "I get it, I'll leave you alone," she said, holding her hands up defensively.

I nodded with pursed lips, "That's a great idea."

Tate went to walk toward the stalls, but suddenly stopped in her tracks, slowly turning to face me.

I sighed, realizing she was in fact, not going to leave me alone, "I thought we had a mutual agreement," I said.

Tate nodded a couple of times, "We do, I just..." she trailed off, and it was clear she was unsure of her next words. "I just still care about you, even if you want to be left alone."

What is that even supposed to mean? And why does that have anything to do with me?

I crossed my arms over my chest, "What point are you trying to make?" I said, clearly impatient.
