He didn't even wait for his friend to finish his sentence before he took off running to the edge of the property and jumping through the hedge to Thea's home. He knew that he would never live this down. His ass of a friend was probably still on the porch watching him make a complete and utter fool of himself.
And he did not care in the least.
He straightened himself up and brushed down his suit, taking a twig out of his hair and shook his head, rolling his eyes at how ridiculous he looked. But he was determined, and he wasn't going to be put off from what he knew he had to do. So he marched right up to the front door of the very impressive house and rang the doorbell.
It only took about 30 seconds of waiting for Paul to answer. "Is everything alright?" Paul asked in a concerned yet friendly voice.
Rowan couldn't understand why Paul had stepped aside as Alpha. It was a role he was born into, and he knew that Paul would have made an amazing Alpha. Not that there was anything wrong with Hanson. He was a good second option, but Rowan knew Paul would have been better. He remembered his father once saying that Paul made a very difficult de0cision, but he inevitably did what was best for the pack by stepping aside. He wanted to raise his family, and he didn't want to put them in harms way by showcasing them as the Alpha's children.
It made sense on some level, but Rowan always thought that there was more to it. He guessed he now knew the real reason. Paul fell in love with a witch. A witch Luna would be seen as a high prize to many packs and there were others packs and rogues who would make it their mission to eliminate her or imprison her just to use her for their own gain.
"Good evening sir, I -"
"Paul is fine. It's Mr Basinger?" Paul asked holding out his hand.
"Yes, but please call be Rowan," he smiled shaking the man's hand.
"Please come in Rowan. Can I get you anything?" He gestured to the sofa where his son and what looked to be his mate were sitting.
"No, thank you. I am sorry to call at this late hour but I wanted to speak to you and Thea."
"Thea?" Paul asked as he turned off the television.
"Is she OK?" Tristan asked. "She is reading Willow a story."
"She is fine, but I believe I may have upset her, and I wanted to apologise." Rowan said, sighing and feeling incredibly guilty.
"You upset her?" Tristan asked, now looking curiously at the stranger in his home.
"You see, when I met her, I realised straight away that we were -"
"Mates," Thea said, coming into the room, her arms crossed over her chest.
"Oh my stars!" Paul gasped. "Honey, you found your mate?" He beamed with pride as he took in the young man in front of him.
"I did," she nodded. "Tristan? Amiah? Can you give us a few minutes?" She begged Amiah with her eyes, and her best friend clearly got the message.
"We will go and check on the girls and let you talk," she said, dragging her own mate out of the room but not before nodding to Thea as if to ask if she was ok. Thea nodded and smiled at her best friend. When they were alone with Paul, she sat on the opposite sofa, away from Rowan. She couldn't even bring herself to look at him.
"I realised as soon as we arrived that Thea was my second chance, mate. As I have already explained to her, I was mated to a human girl a few years ago, and it didn't work out. I was delighted to find out that I had a second chance. I wanted Thea and I to start our relationship off right, so I wanted to set a few things straight. Reveal a secret."
