The whole way through dinner, Greyson kept his eyes on Thea. He looked like he was sucking on a sour-sweet and scowled or groaned every time she sighed. She tried to ignore him as much as possible but it was not easy considering she could literally feel his eyes on her. Bowie kept looking around the room as well as Maverick, Kyle and Lennon. Thea was pretty sure they were looking to try and suss out who the ex-mate was. But Thea wasn't ready to drop that bomb yet.
When the plates were empty and the scraping of knives and forks stopped, Alpha Hanson stood up to address the room. "Evening everyone. I just wanted to say a quick word about our guests. As you all know Zeta Bowie and a few members of his entourage have come to spend the weekend with us. We have had a day of looking through our accounts and making sure everything is as it should be." He cast a quick glance at Greyson who was blushing. "Now I have told the Zeta that there are many of you who have been looking forward to meeting him so he has agreed to have a few drinks in the gardens this evening. A chance to relax and unwind and meet some of you. I will ask you to be respectful and to treat our Zeta with respect and authority and not to bombard him when he is trying to enjoy himself."
Rowan bent over towards Bowie and Thea. "If I have to make pleasantries all night and play the dutiful Zeta – you owe me big time!"
Bowie chuckled. "You will be compensated, don't worry."
As several members of the pack began to clear the tables and clean up, everyone else made their way to the gardens. The outdoor bar area was stocked and three servers were ready and waiting to take drink orders. The heated lamps were lit as well as the firepit and it looked very inviting. There was also music playing from the speakers.
The younger kids in the pack, including Willow, ran off to play on the lawns while parents and family members got a drink and kept a close eye on them. Bowie and Rowan were the first to sit down on a large sofa as the rest of the pack spread out to talk to people. Amiah and Tristan soon followed with Ned and Jackson.
It took all of three seconds before a horde of girls, all in Thea's year at school came over giggling and pushing each other forward to talk to the men. You know those groups of girls at school who would dare each other to talk to the guys and would expect the guys to see their actions as cute? Cheerleaders were not really a thing in the UK but if they were, this clique would be them.
And of course, Karen was in the middle of them.
"Hi," one of the blondes giggled and she used her arms to stick out her chest. "My name is Darcy." She pushed her hair behind her ear as she looked up at Rowan through her eyelashes. "My friends and I were wondering if we could buy you and your Beta a drink. We are sitting at that table and you could come over and we could entertain you for the evening. I am sure you are bored here all alone."
"He is hardly alone Darcy," Amiah rolled her eyes.
"Oh, I meant being the only interesting two in the group. He should be with people who are of the same social status as him." She batted her eyelashes at him.
"I am perfectly happy where I am," Rowan said in a bored tone. "I am more interested in intellectual conversations. Not makeup and boys."
Darcy blushed. "Are you sure? I mean the girls here have nothing to offer you but I -"
"Better walk away if you know what's good for you," Tristan chuckled before dismissing them with his hand.
Darcy looked to be mortified and angry as fuck as she stormed off with her friends. "I see there are the same cliques in every pack," Rowan chuckled.
"They are not even the worst ones," Thea mumbled as another group of girls approached.
Poor Rowan was getting annoyed with all the attention. He had never had to turn down so many girls in one night. Some were not even girls. Mated older ladies also hit on him left, right and centre. Thea felt very bad for him. He did as he was expected, walking amongst the groups and speaking with the senior members of the pack, answering question after question about every aspect of his life from how he found being Zeta, to horror stories of war to why he was still unmated. By the time he made it back to the little group, he was exhausted.
