Loki POV

The little mortal was alive. And not so much mortal anymore.

Loki's mind was reeling when he arrived back in Asgard. Part of him wanted to go search out his mate immediately. To share the news she'd only dreamt of hearing.

But Penelope had asked him not to. She'd been within her rights to ask it of him. But would he lie to Olivia?

He didn't have to lie to her, if he didn't speak with her. Using their bond, he felt her out as he stepped onto the rainbow bridge. She was in their rooms, likely curled up on the chaise where he'd left her.

He'd gone back to Midgard in search of her favorite book. Something to get her mind off everything. Instead, he'd found something more.

Flashing into his favorite alcove in the castle's libraries, he went in search of the section that held anything and everything to do with seidr. He was going to find the answer to Penelope's predicament, even if he had to go to Yggdrasil himself.

It'd taken him hours of searching. When he found what he'd been looking for he felt dumb for not thinking of it himself.

The girl was a whalker. A being that could travel to different realms. He'd only met one other capable besides himself, his mother. Frigga had been the one to teach him to hone his own ability, the power stemming from the deepest branches of Yggdrasil. How the little mortal came to develop the ability herself was a question for another day.

For now, he had enough to present an explanation to his mate. Penelope wasn't dead. Far from it. Her soul had only traveled to another realm, undetectable.

When Loki arrived back in his room, he indeed found Olivia curled up on the chaise, staring blankly into the fireplace.

"Darling?" He asked gently, not wanting to spook her.

Her eyes flashed to his, the shadows moving about in her left one giving way to the grief she felt within. A grief he was about to put an end to.

He knelt before her and took her hands in his own.

Her gaze went back to the flames.

"Little one, I have news."

She continued to ignore him.

"Penelope is alive."

Still nothing.

Loki cocked his head to the side, pulling at their bond.

Olivia continued to block him out.

Loki sighed. "Did you hear me? She's alive."

"Stop, Loke. Just stop." A tear fell from her eye. "I can't do this anymore. She's not alive. She's gone."

"Gone, yes. But not dead."

He did something he vowed to never do. He broke through her mental defenses and implanted the memory of seeing Penelope in their suite into Olivia's mind.

She gasped, her wide eyes finally meeting his gaze and holding.

What?

She's alive.

How?

Her magic.

"I will explain further. But first let's get you dressed and go find Thor. He's going to want to hear this too."

"You're sure? You're absolutely sure? Because I can't- Loke, I can't go through this again. Don't put me through this again."

"I wouldn't dream of it, dearest."
